Only guy was willing to get his hands dirty was Late CDS Rawat saab... Monumental loss for India. Tbh, it takes two to tango, our baboos are no doubt corrupt (not all, majority of them)...but our arms industry too is a sham. HAL keeps on missing the Tejas mk1a timelines, they aren't even able to complete the radar integration properly. Not sure, what the heck these guys are doing...it seems they just work couple of hours a day and the rest they just sit in the cafeteria and gulp samosa's and pakora's.

I think DRDO/HAL etc are 30% hit and 70% miss. India in general, is good at modifications and upgrades of Russian tech. the MKI and T90 tank MK3 are good examples of this. I was reading on the T90 upgrades India has achieved and it is a very good tank that can be incorporated in large numbers. I think we have something that we can induct 3000 of and retire the T72s. Will be a very strong global armored force. Apart from missiles, we are poor at designing from scratch. We also seem to struggle when we base our designs on European (read French) platforms. Tejas took a good degree of inspiration from the Mirage. Maybe HAL should have upgraded the MiG-21 and had a pure interceptor. This is why i think DRDO should just stick to Missiles. They are quite decent at it. But India too needs to enter a strong partnership with Russia. Let Russians design the base and let Indians upgrade. This seems to be a viable way forward and a middle ground between imports and desi.

Time is ripe to increase the defence budget to 2.5-3% of GDP. Though, its will effect the internal elections where revdi is needed. I think Army does have their issues but its the IAF that is wasting resources. The blunt truth is India needs a 200,000 elite commando unit at the borders. China too is creating a 200,000 commando force from their 2.5 million army. The era of infantry is over. I think GoI knows this and simply wants to keep people employed. We have rapidly built our artillery which was a gapping hole during the UPA era. The Pinaka program is very strong. The T90 upgrades have been a huge hit. M777 and K9 are well integrated with more of the later to come. The Zoawar tank too has been designed well. So the army has many green shoots. Believe me when i say, a Pinaka mk3 with 300km range will smother Pakistan. I am simply not worried about the army. Lots of positives. I am not going to say there are no concerns. The helicopter program, even with the order of Apaches is suspect. We are struggling to operate the Apaches and HAL Prachand is struggling.

It has been awesome too see our Naval firepower increasing. IAF otoh has always been a mess, cut commission kickbags under phoren influence. IAF got left behind, i think, due to rapid tech advance. Not sure if there has been that fast in navy

Exactly, we need to use one country who has strong ties with us and they need more vendors. That's where the visit of Putin to India in Dec is key, various sources are expecting that along with Su-57, Russia will push hard of Kinzal and R37 missiles. It's not supporting the import lobby, but rather getting into a strategic partnership which will help you empower yourself and learn the things on job before doing it ourself. Let's hope that MoD is watching the debacles carefully and have shared the requirements with Russia MoD.

Pressure is surmount on HAL, and tbh...a delay if 40 years doesnt give HAL anymore leverage and sympathy. Projects can go haywire, and thats normal if you miss 10-20% of our projects...but in HALs case, they are goofing up one project after the another hints there is some structural issue in its work culture which needs to be reformed. Once the weapons test fire successfully, then only the CEMILAC approvals are required...here HAL hasn't even successfully tested Astra 2. Astra 1 is ready theoretically but it's capability is limited as front strike...hence again we have to throw likes of Rafales and Sukhois as first strike weapon.

Instead of relying on conventional warhead submarines..India focussed first on Nuclear warhead carrying submarines....INS Arihant, Arighaat and upcoming Ardhamaan is part of the nuclear triad. Plus 2 more are in pipeline. We have transformed our Navy as deep water Navy, though our shallow water naval tech is still to be developed, we have used the numbers of anti submarine warships to negate the shallow water submarine threats (similar to S400 against BVRs), this give us decent enough time. Plus in future we are preparing for INS Vishaal who is going to be our biggest aircraft carrier, both in terms of displacement and jet carrier capacity.

At best, China will indulge in covert wars through Pakistan and test their military toys, and parallelly build their global brand image through trade.

The moment we let our guard down, first a covert war will happen, followed by Chinese aggression. Staying on alert and keeping the forces modernized is the key. US-Russia example is in front, US is powerful that Russia militarily, and in theory it can obliterate Russia in conventional warfare, yet they can't confront it face 2 face coz they know Russian military power will weaken their defences as well to a large.

Russia has faced immense sanctions and had impact on war, yet their unwavered approach to their country's safety and protection is appreciable.

Chinese are very cerebral people, they don't have jazba junoon in them. They are like Dhoni-conda, gradually weaken the opponent by grappling instead of blunt force trauma. Sure, Indian military needs to modernize in order to do reverse posturing to the Chinese, but the actual reason to modernize is to stave off possible CIA -ISI nexus.

singhvivek141 Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 (edited) India must not let go of the goodwill for Indians in Afghanistan. This kind of nature can't be created using force or power. It can be done only through trust and cooperation. Help them in every way possible, even try to strengthen the relations between Iran and Afghanistan. It will not only keep Pooks in check, but also give us an access to Russia via Central Asia. Edited November 3, 2025 by singhvivek141 raki05 1
