Gollum Posted October 20 Posted October 20 (edited) Modi's vision of nurturing sporting talent, like this.... LINK Countries like Australia and Canada want it scrapped, even 2026 edition will be just for namesake with very few events, last minute responsibility on Glasgow, and they will be compensated for it. But India comes to the rescue of the Crown, keen to keep the colonial relic alive. Centenary Commonwealth Games btw, may the Indian governing class roaches bend their knees to King Charles and pledge fealty, like the Delhi Durbar of 1911. May Indians be rewarded with a billion $ scam this time. And btw, well deserved reward for the sporting powerhouse state of India, I am sure this choice of venue has nothing to do with Modi/Ambani/politics. Edited October 20 by Gollum
Gollum Posted October 20 Author Posted October 20 (edited) Olympics is too soon, but CWG is a sham. Asian Games would have been a more sensible choice, at least it means something. Anyway in beghairti kutton (saare parties mile hue hai) ko bas lootna hai. Edited October 20 by Gollum

Not too disappointed tbh.
randomGuy Posted October 20 Posted October 20 A useful summary from the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) shows that for the Summer Games: Beijing 2008: spent over US$40 billion and generated ~US$3.6 billion in revenue. London 2012: spent ~US$18 billion and had ~US$5.2 billion revenue. Tokyo 2020: spent ~US$13 billion (at least, for the Games‐operations part) and revenue around US$5.8 billion. Hosting the Olympics can bring intangible benefits: city/region branding, infrastructure upgrades, sports legacy, tourism spillovers. But from a pure “spend vs revenue” standpoint, very few hosts have recouped their full costs — and many have ended up with ongoing financial burdens AI generated^

I think this will be better managed than that shambolic 2010 common wealth games. But, I did not see any improvement in cleanliness from 2012 to 2024. It is quite far fetched for us to expect that the situation will improve, atleast to the standards of south east Asia, by 2036.
