Gollum Posted October 23, 2025 Posted October 23, 2025 Considering we are the second best visiting test team there behind RSA (ignoring GOAT WI) Even Pak, SL have fared better. Pak won a series against their GOAT side in 2002, and a tri series in late 90s. SL have always pushed them hard there, even against their 2000s and early 2010s sides.
Gollum Posted October 23, 2025 Author Posted October 23, 2025 Even in our best era in ODIs (post 2015) we are 4-11 in ODIs in Australia against them. Often we have come up against weakened Aussies teams, but still one-sided in their favor. Our only bilateral series win (2-1) there came in 2019 when they were missing Warner, Smith, Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins....a meme side basically with test specialists and Lyon as their spinner. We have an extremely poor record against full strength Aus both home and away, in our best era. Anyway let us focus on our record in Aus in this thread.
Cloud9 Posted October 23, 2025 Posted October 23, 2025 Even in India, they were the only side in Odis who gave competition as compared to other teams. Even peak Lanka didn't have any series win in India whereas Australia have the series win in 2019/20 with much weaker side. Gollum 1
Lone Wolf Posted October 23, 2025 Posted October 23, 2025 We should have won this series... But India is playing few washed up oldies in the line up. Australia has reinforced and Mitch Owen and Cooper look seriously good. Owen is ideal maxwell replacement in the making. India's record in tri series is always dubious barring CB series win in 2008. 2012 and 2015 were absolute disasters in Australia. Basically I have found out bowling regularly gets exposed in Australia. 2016 ODI series batters did well but we carried a pathetic bowling unit. Friggin Barinder Sran Rishi Dhawan lmao.. 2019 we won a tight ODI series in Australia. That Aus side also lost to SA before India series. 2021 series loss is also on bowlers. rollingstoned and Gollum 1 1

They played one more ODI series here in Sep which they lost 1-2, and then the WC. https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/australia-in-india-odis-2022-23-1348639/match-schedule-fixtures-and-results They have won more series against us in India as well. Unreal ownage. Cloud9 1

Even 2019 win was unconvincing as you said, look at the XIs they fielded, not even third string. Lone Wolf 1
Bigg Brother Posted October 23, 2025 Posted October 23, 2025 Aussies are beast when it comes to ODIs. They go through transition very smoothly barring 2010-13 when they struggled in ODIs. They have given India tough fight at home as well with their B attacks, look at that 2013 ODI series where Baily captained and we barely won 3-2. In 2019, they smashed us 2-3 when India were 2-0 up after first two matches. We have absolutely shambolic record in Australia. 2012 and 2015 Tri series were the worst outing.. Actually in 2015 we were horrendous against them, started with tri series loss, could not even win even sole WC warm up match against Aussies and ended with SF slaughter.. Gollum 1
Lord Posted October 23, 2025 Posted October 23, 2025 CB series remains our biggest win. We struggle in SA even worse

At least we are better than NZ, SL there. Also there is the matter of discrepancy, we do quite well in tests and T20Is vs Aus in Aus, but not in ODIs where all major nations outperform us. Here is the record in RSA:
Nikhil_cric Posted October 23, 2025 Posted October 23, 2025 Because they have simply been better? 6 time World champions. Beating them in their own backyard will obviously be tough. tapandrun 1

WI because of their golden era.
Gollum Posted October 23, 2025 Author Posted October 23, 2025 Interestingly Sachin has a poor ODI record in Aus. Even Kohli has statpadded against C, D bowling attacks in a much easier batting era. Whenever Australia's first choice bowlers have played, Kohli has struggled massively over there. Lone Wolf and Bigg Brother 2

Since Jan. 2003, Rohit, Kohli and MSD were our best batsmen against OZ in OZ. SRT, Dhawan were decent but not great. Even on this tour, our batting has flopped. Lost too many wickets in the Powerplay tapandrun 1
Nikhil_cric Posted October 23, 2025 Posted October 23, 2025 Btw, @Gollum, we used to absolutely suck in South African cricket conditions too until 2017/18 ODI series there. rollingstoned, Gollum and tapandrun 3
Gollum Posted October 23, 2025 Author Posted October 23, 2025 Just now, Lord said: Sachin's twin knocks in the finals won us CB series though. Yeah, great knocks. Meant his overall career, for his high standards. I can't remember anything apart from those 2 knocks. Just checked, 25 matches, 740 runs, avg 30.8, SR 70.7 But even then, will rate him above Kohli over there, just for those CB finals knocks. Kohli has a sub 20 average IIRC when Aus played even 3 of their top 4 bowlers. Not about taking potshots against any player. Just emphasizing the point that even our ODI GOATs have struggled there.

Nikhil_cric Posted October 23, 2025 Posted October 23, 2025 Australia also have had ridiculously good ODI fast bowlers over the years, especially in their own conditions. Pidge, Dizzy, Flemmo, Binga, Johnson, Starc, Hazlewood. We brought toothpicks like Barinder Sran to a gunfight. rollingstoned 1

We were a terrible ODI team before that . In fact, contrary to popular opinion,I think we were pants until 2007. We used to get humiliated by West Indies regularly until 07. rollingstoned 1
