We can't, GE414 has been decided and they cannot suddenly change the design as it would push the program a decade back at least.

The babu that went with GE is to blame.

There were some murmurs last year. It's always better to have a backup design especially when something is as critical as the engine. Wouldn't put it beyond USA to keep delaying giving technology transfer.

INS Khanderi will be the first AIP sub retro fitted with DRDO AIP plug.  Will go in operational testing phase by the end of the year.

Good news on Submarine front finally.

it will be ready by this year end.

One all Scorpene class submarines are ready with AIP, it will be a boost in the under water capability.

Probably a sane take.. let's not wait on HAL setting up production lines and making sure the costs shoot up twice and thrice per unit.  Focus on AMCA and import not more 2 5th gen squadrons in flyaway condition.

Even UCAV Ghatak will be force multiplier. 5-6 squadrons of Ghatak will be enough for our needs till AmCA comes in.

Yes but first Khanderi will go for sea trials with its AIP system.

Reckon we may get at least 2-3 DRDO AIP fuel cell powered subs before the first P75I German boat arrives in 2032.

P75I follow on order of 3 more Subs should be in consideration as well hopefully as additional Scorpene weren't ordered.

Yeah, have to see where P75I is increased from 6 to 9. Although Scorpenes additional 3 orders arent cancelled yet, but rather on hold.

P76 me we will get 12 submarines with AIP, that will be the key for our regional power projection. While P77 will be for global power projection.

6/9 P75I

6 Scorpenes

12 P76

6 P77

Total 30/33 Submarines for conventional capability. Rest 6/8 SSBNs for Nuclear Deterrence.

Yeah I wish we were done with P75I in this decade. This administration has been very lethargic when it comes to clearing older backlogs.

Next decade should have been all about SSN and P76 and NGD P18.

Apart from SSBN program we have been ultra slow. Thank God they cleared S4* arihant class SSBN in 2012 and ensuring the production line doesn't sit idle for a decade. Overall it was a lost decade in defence procurement both in IAF and IN.

Things have only picked up in last 2 years.

Not sure how different it will be from Seshnaag. It's an AI image but it looks very similar to Seshnaag except for the fact that it's a Kamikaze drone while the other is swarm of drones.

The thread needs to be renamed to Indias military advancemens and indigenous progress. Countdown to op Sindoor 2 is a misnomer...there is no op Sindoor 2 in plan..I wish there was ..we need to proactively identify and destroy the cells in pakland...not make token attacks after a terrorist incident when every person disperses and pak is on high alert

Yeah the DRDO AIP is as of now unproven.  I suppose the sea trials and everything including the upgrades might take a year or two. Including the retro fitting part which is complex.  In any case it is still a good news as Import Bahadurs and Blackpillers were already calling it a failure.

Terrorists and their hideouts and command centres should be lowest in priority next time (if there ever will be)

Main Target should always be Pakistani industrial and military command and control centres.  The PAC facility in Kamra (JF17 assembly line), Karachi shipbuilding complex, major airbases etc..

This year end is the target for completion of trials.

Once the Proof of Concept is established, the window for other submarines will be even lesser.

Just like Arihant took 6 years under trial, Arighat only 2, Aridhmaan & Arisudan even lower (around 1.5 years).

Yeah the first one will naturally take its time and process would naturally quicken up with subsequent upgrades.

Also Khanderi will have new Indigenous EWHT capable torpedos ensuring anti EW countermeasures in play.

Some very good points by Major Gaurav Arya.

He may do hyperbole at times, and may not say something which is unique. But the way he presents the information is worth listening to.

Defence sector doesnt need everything state of the art. Just like Air Defence there has to be multiple layers of equipments which can be thrown at the enemy to overwhelm its territory and capability.

Navy needs unmanned missile boats, kinda like kamikaze drones. IAF require platforms like Ghatak, and Army need auto propelled artillery mixed with unmanned launchers.

They need to be the first line of attack, crush the enemy defences..and hence we would need them in thousands..not some token 50-60-70.

Increase the Defence budget to 2.5-2.7% (atleast) and mke it static till 2047 atleast...so that no matter which govt comes in power, they cant cut the budget.

Hope, Indian warships start using these naval guns instead of relying on foreign guns.
These guns and artillery procurement will be helpful for our home grown defence industries.

Still think the concept that works on land will work in sea too. We need drone equivalent in terms of sea. Just create minute autonoumous unmanned sea subs (size of a torpedo), loitering sea bombs in count of several hundred thousand and disperse them all across india coast in event of war

That's what we expected TAPAS to do, but all 3 wings rejected it.

Navy is operating Seaguardian and Hermes 900.

Naval requirement will be different as constant water may cause erosion..hence metallurgy needs to be different.

Even the gyroscope has to be tweaked as ships are never constant

No. I am talking about something which is within water, carries explosive worth of 1+ sea mine, have a motor, a sensor and can swim may be 1-10 meters deep with a periscope.
