zen Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Ideally, I should have waited for the result of ENG v NZ game tonight to begin this thread, but since I have time at the moment (and gaining interest in the tournament), below is a preview of the upcoming knockouts: * SF1: Eden Gardens or Premadasa (depends on Pak's qualification) - March 4, Wed * SF2: Wankhede - March 5, Thu * F: Ahmedabad or Premadasa (depends on Pak's qualification) - March 8, Sun SF slots booked so far: Eng and SA Remaining slots to be decided: * Eng v NZ, and Pak v SL if NZ lose * Ind v WI, a virtual QF The question is will the winner of Ind v WI clash remain in Kolkata for the SF1 or fly to Mumbai for SF2?
zen Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 (edited) India in knockouts at World Cups held in India India has won 2 out of 5 knockout games versus non subcontinent teams in LOI world cups in India. On the other hand, against subcontinent teams, India has won 3 out of 4 knockout games: * 1987 ODI SF v ENG at Mumbai: Lost * 1996 ODI QF v Pak at Banglore: Won * 1996 ODI SF v SL at Kolkata: Lost * 2011 ODI WC QF v Aus at Ahmedabad: Won * 2011 ODI WC SF v Pak at Mohali: Won * 2011 ODI WC F v SL at Mumbai: Won * 2016 T20 SF v WI at Mumbai: Lost * 2023 ODI SF v NZ at Mumbai: Won * 2023 ODI F v Aus at Ahmedabad: Lost Edited February 27 by zen
Norman Posted February 27 Posted February 27 South Africa looks flawless.. Batting depth .. Explosive hitters.. Pace Spin Variations And they have even broken the choker curse with the WTC final win.. India will lose in the semis to New Zealand.
zen Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 Based on the below, if Pak does not qualify, the winner of Ind v WI will likely remain in Kolkata for SF1: "The first semi-final remains a floating venue arrangement between Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium and Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, depending on the results from the ongoing Super 8 fixtures. The second semi-final is slated to be hosted at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. If Pakistan qualify for the semi-finals, they will play in semi-final 1 in Colombo on 4 March. If Pakistan do not qualify for the semi-finals, but Sri Lanka qualify and play anyone other than India, then Sri Lanka will play in semi-final 1 in Colombo. If neither of those apply, or if India are drawn against Sri Lanka, then the first semi-final will be played in Kolkata on the same date."

Ex Pak cricketer cum fixer Mohd Amir has, on air, said couple of days ago, that Ind won't reach the semis. He looked very confident about his claim.

Forever Indian Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Are the two SFs pre-seeded as well? Assuming India and NZ get through, what will the two SF matches be? The only way SA will not win the trophy is if they get defeated in the SF so will be interesting to see who they will face. If SA reach final, then gonna be impossible to defeat them at their home ground Ahmedabad

It would be the straight forward X1 v Y2 and X2 v Y1. Forever Indian 1

neel roy Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Only good thing i guess not sure though due to shenanigans about floating venues, if india beats windies in eden they stay in eden to play england.

I think India are venue locked to Mumbai for the semi final. For the other Semi - if it's SA vs NZ --> Eden If it's SA vs Pak -> Colombo

Eden Gardens is a better venue compared to Wankhede against Eng team who would love flattish pitch and smallish ground.
zen Posted February 28 Author Posted February 28 Knockouts should have been held at around 4 pm to account for dew. Ultimate_Game 1

zen Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 (edited) While Eng has shown the fighting spirit and India is playing at home, it is difficult to ignore NZ, which has made to at least 3 LOI World Cup finals without winning one. 2015 ODI lost to Aus 2019 ODI lost to Eng 2021 T20 lost to Aus The law of averages could favor it now! cricketfan28 Posted Thursday at 06:05 PM Posted Thursday at 06:05 PM What will be the legacy of nz if they lose one more final? Shouldn't they be called the chokers?

PS NZ has mostly lost finals to other SENA teams. Edited Thursday at 06:16 PM by zen
