I really don't see Abhishek doing anything when NZ opens with McCochie and follow it up with Phillips. They also have Santner and Rachin who're bowling well. Siraj isn't upgrade to anyone that is universal truth,while Varun is bowling like a chicken and trying to escape as soon as possible,infact with Siraj we haven't won any ICC event,that's also true

In fact the team has improved everytime he has been dropped and replaced. He failed in the 2023 WC final, was dropped in the knockout stage of 2024 WT20 which we won, and was dropped from the CT squad as well which we again ended up winning.

 

Siraj is not a game-changer and generally is a SL basher who goes missing against better teams. He should be played only in Tests and not a good fit for LOIs. He lacks control, has no variety, is a poor fielder, can't hold a bat and goes for runs when attacked. He's worse than both Varun and Kuldeep and TBH shouldn't have been part of the WT20 squad. I would take Harshal Patel over him coz at least Harshal Patel can bowl his slower ones on this slow pitch.

 

Stick with Varun or replace him with Kuldeep (I don't agree though) but no Siraj. On this pitch the ball will come on to the bat and he'll go for 50+ in his 4 overs and probably drop a sitter.

Varun's strength has been negated. Unfortunately he doesn't have the ability to slow the pace all the way down to like 70 kph. When he gets hit he bowls at 100 kph making the life even easier.

One final chance for Varun to redeem himself. He is a bit iffy when in panic mode but then Kuldeep is also same.

this is where the coaching matters and has been a big let down this tournament.the no 1 batsman and no 1 Bowler are now our worst players and yet they are doing exactly what they have been  doing before the WC and nothing has changed.a simple change for Abhishek like not going for lofted shots against Off  spin or bowling slower and giving it more reps for Varun would have been a great start.

Mitchell is the best vs kully. But in a match up with Finn Allen Kully has a better chance

Most of our bowling options are garbage! How did we end up like this? Why weren't other options tried?

On a road 10 an over is good figures if you ask me.  But 15 an over is not. So we need defensive bowlers on roads. Krunal pandya type. I think Bishnoi has potential to be a defensive bowler as his trajectory is very low. He may go for runs from time to time.But an option to consider on road wickets.

For roads, multi dimensional cricketers are a must. Krunal can make up with the bat. Even Bishnoi can score 10-12 runs. One dimensional players like Kuldip, VC, Siraj etc should not be picked on roads.
