There's Bumrah and then there's Mohsin Khan. These are the top two white-ball bowlers we have in the country. Mohsin can hit that awkward length which is difficult to score of, is accurate and gives no freebies, hits mid 140s and consistently is around 140-142 kph mark. He was able to bowl a maiden to Sooryavanshi which nobody has ever done.

The guy averages around 20, ER of 8 and a SR of 16! He should be an automatic pick in white-ball cricket if fit. Nobody else even comes close to him. Imagine him bowling in tandem with Bumrah! :woot:

Problem with Mohsin is he is always on the edge of a breakdown.

In IPL, he survives due to impact and hence goes out the momebt his quota is over.

But in internationals, the moment he has to play back to back few games, I am really not sure if he can survive the rigors. He is almost like Mohd Irfan of Pakistan, who too was very tall but just didnt had stamina and fitness.

One more injury and it will be curtains, as he is already 27-28.

Regardless, we can't predict that yet. He deserves a shot in the next bilateral series India plays. And take it from there.

The mistake we make in our thinking is that slotting or dropping someone into or out of the team is a permanent act. Form is paramount in T20s. Get the guy in when he is bowling well, give him 8-10 matches, and see what he can do.

His bowling arm got weak due to that medical issue and finally he seems to be back to his best..even touching 140s sometimes..

We have kep Varun C and Sundar in the team..who had been fragile too..

I am hoping..after these couple of years of recovery and strengthening..Mohsin is slightly better fitness wise than he used to be..and should keep getting better..the more he plays and managed well..in NCA and team etc

bowled a good slower one

TBH, getting someone out with a good slower one does not appeal that much to me. I realize it's a skill, it is difficult to execute and all that, but call me when there's someone who gets a good batsman out with a pacy, well-directed length ball or yorker. Or beats someone for pace in the channel and gets them caught behind the wicket because they couldn't get the bat out of the way in time.

He isn't pacy enough for that. Early to mid 130s

I really hope some sane minds prevail and they focus on the actual traits / attributes of the bowler for a long lasting edge which can survive the rigors of international cricket than some stupid IPL performances.

Also should not under any circumstance mix up formats - use T20 for ODI or test selection.

The pathway for each of these should be separate.

IPL performances should just be the bare-minimum requirement to identify T20 talent.

Thats the problem. It should never be the minimum. The performances there r not representative of international success.
U can may be use it as a guideline for some similarly played league and pitch conditions.

I beg to differ  a bit.

The performances there do not guarantee international success, but provide a starting point to identify talent that can be followed in other settings (e.g., SMAT).

Sushant Mishra was best bowler of SMAT this year.

RR has benched him entirely.

There is no logic behind selection of players.
