Commitment to fitness - check

Brilliant catching - check (See his first match)

Finishing in death overs - check

He was always seen as a red-ball specialist, but seems to have realized that, if you want to be noticed, it helps to turn heads in the IPL (I mean SKY played tests!). And he is doing it now.

He should have been playing red ball anyway, but hopefully selectors/TM consider him seriously again.

Deserved a longer rope in Tests and didn't deserve to be dropped from the team after the NZ series where he had a score of 150+ He paid the price for Rohit and Kohli's non-performance. He should've played in England instead of Karun Nair. Hope he gets a longer run in Tests as he isn't really a natural T20 player. His nudges and soft touches paid off today but he lacks power and is more of a touch player.

All true, but from a visibility standpoint - like "hello, do you see me now?" - IPL helps the most even for red ball cricketers. Unfortunate reality.

It's Gambhir. There was some leaked news from Indian dressing room and apparently Gambhir blamed Sarfaraz for it. The guy always had to beat the odds and perceptions but it's never really ended. He's always on the edge and one false step and he's the first one to be discarded.

Sarfaraz is not made for T20s. He may have succeeded today but he'll struggle in T20s. He doesn't have the power game and these nudges and soft touches won't succeed majority of times. It's unfair to force likes of him and Pujara to succeed in IPL to get in Tests.

Sarfaraz top scored in Ranji Trophy 3 times and averaged close to 100 across 3 Ranji season to break into the Indian side and he was kicked out after NZ series when it was Rohit and Kohli who failed.

On face it can be gambhir, but Ind cricketing system does nt like some1 who leaks dressing room info/chats/rifts(call it whatever you like it).

Mishra, kuldeep, sarfraz has faced the issue because of such habits, should not use such inside team stories to be in good books with some jurnos.

v.hard to keep such players in the side as this will always cause a rifting point if team loses.

Gambhir is a vindictive person with strong likes and dislikes. Once he gets something into his mind he never lets it go. Sarfaraz paid the price in Tests and Iyer in T20s when it's clear that Iyer is a huge step up from SKY both as a T20 middle order batter and as a leader.

This is where selectors have to step in, and I would prefer a more open minded coach in the longer run.

It wasn't even proven it was Sarfaraz but he was made the scapegoat on suspicion and kicked out. IMO the incident was used as an excuse to kick him out coz Gambhir never really was a fan of him. Same with Iyer who can't get into the team when someone like SKY was brought in to ODIs and persisted for years in T20s with no performance other than minnow-bashing.

its not that hard to figure who leaked the news in the side. every player has 1-2 of their jurnos and easy to figure-out. its not like there was going to be some investigations and inquires and proofs to found and submitted , its always based on suspicion.

Sarfaraz is senior pro who had played cricket with the biggest side in Ind and him being not aware of such things. can think of some1 new who has not been in the circuit fr long and did that may be they get warning

Do you recall the leaks when Kohli was forced to give up LOI captaincy? There was a news leak nearly everyday about how a grave injustice was done to Kohli, and about rift between Kohli and Rohit etc. Where do you think the news leaks were coming from? It was staged by Kohli and his PR. Everyone knew that and nothing was done. Same happened when Rohit was so out of form that he had to drop himself from the Test team in Aus and had that bizarre mid-pitch interview cum news conference. It was followed by some more propaganda but neither Kohli or Rohit were even censured, forget about being dropped.

And now suddenly a fringe player who isn't known for PR and is hardly that influential is blamed for news leak and kicked out. To me that was witch-hunting. We have seen enough to know that there're some who're preferred (e.g., SKY, Sundar), and others who can't even get into the team or kicked out at the first hint of an excuse (Jaiswal, Sarfaraz) by making them a scapegoat.

Yes those instances with kolhi , rothit were ugly too hence the relation between kolhi and bcci have been salty, rohit had and kolhi had to leave test cricket after the interview.

You can nt do much about pr as that can not be proved but bcci has now instructed newer players not to use such pr.

apart from thse 3 now no1 has such agressive pr these days and reason is obvious because of such agressive pr genuine ckt fans have drifted away from them and once the pr cover is gone organic reactions will come and that is not good for players and bcci too.

They are also rewarding ppl who are fixing the issue be it ckting or non-crkting ::- Iyer is Vc of odi side , kishan called in in-place of a vc in wc side.

Yes jaiswal is suffering a bit in all these but does he have a spot in Ind t20i side -- no. Does have a spot in odi side yes but gill is captain and rohit and kolhi would have made some deal to retain their places in  odi if they retire from test and t20s.

And to be fair they have done well in the games they have played.

Wish Punjab played Musheer, would have been an epic clash

Is Musheer fit? Last I heard he was recovering from a serious accident. Out of the two I find Musheer better suited to LOIs and seems more talented.
