We were 34/3 at one time and things were looking bleak before Kohli put his foot down and rebuilt the innings. 170+ has never been chased in a t20 finals. Stop dicing the stats according to your own whims and fantasies. Even in espn impact metric his batting impact points were same as Axar. Which means he was our best batsman in that match. THE MOTM in the finals was cherry on top and all do kaudi ke haters are still crying over that. You probably have to revisit the match thread and how we were frustrated with a seflish innings from over number 2 to 17 lol Axar had hit 3 sixes. Bloody Virat did not hit a single six till 18th over that is after he got to his 50. A lesser batsman like Axar who was sent in for stopping the collapse played far more aggressively. India had a massive escape that day thanks to India's last 5 overs on the field. In a 20 over game nobody will justify consolidation for 17 overs at a strike rate of barely 100 in a 20 over game. The reason Kohli has higher metric is only because he ate up half the overs and made 76 runs. 10 overs 76 runs. Imagine others going at that rate . That would be 152. Luckily others contributed more. It was a pathetic innings. If you don't see it that way then you have to take your rose-tinted glass. Plus Jaiswal got his matches on an inconsistent basis and was never a permanent member of the team. For Jaiswal to perform at the same level or higher than Rohit when he's just starting of and doesn't even have the spot nailed down speaks volumes. Imagine what he'll do if he's backed and given a starting spot? And look at the upside as Jaiswal grows into the role and gets more experience in the ODI game. OTOH there's no upside to Rohit. If Jaiswal is backed and given the opening spot his numbers will improve but Rohit's reflexes and fitness levels are only going to go down further and the WC is still 1.5 years away. It's a no-brainer that Jaiswal should be given the spot over Rohit who doesn't have much to offer anymore. cricspirit 1

The thing is both kolhi and rohit are able to make it to Ind side on merit, they are not dragging-on , if replacements are not head and shoulders above these 2 they wont be able to push them to retirement till the wc. As for Jaiswal he is already the 3rd opener , decision is already made and top6 are already locked. And till the time he is not the 1/2 opener he should try to play in mo till the wc, team should try him see if the can be fitted to 4/5/6 a solid LH in mo in Odis is needed. How will a youngster do better when they barely get chances? Jaiswal has got 6 ODIs and he has scored 2 100s and averages 71! That's success in my book. Do you recall Rohit when he made his debut for India? He came in 2008 and struggled till 2013 when Dhoni pushed him to open and even then he took another couple of years to establish himself. So Rohit took 6-7 years to establish himself in the team and Jaiswal has outshone him in just 6 games! Rohit and Kohli never had to face such scrutiny and if we had judged them the same way what we're expecting our youngsters to do now, they would never have made it to the team. Difference is that Dhoni was patient with both and backed them. Dhoni went after the seniors and likes of Tendulkar, Sehwag, Gambhir were forced out in favor of youngsters even though neither Rohit or Kohli were world beaters at the time. Yet we're not extending the same courtesy to the current generation? If we had continued to play Sehwag, Gambhir, Tendulkar forever, Rohit and Kohli would never have made it. It's time the current team management and selectors do the same what Dhoni did to seniors decade and a half ago.

Posted this previously too, Ind cricketing system is going thorough a sift , the u-19 players are no longer directly roped into Ind side after 1-2 domestic seasons , which was the case till rohit/kolhi batch. Now they want players to come through the domestic channel+ipl and hence no one is able to make a debut at 21 and be a regular member by 23, this is also to do with the increase in retirement ages of senior players, which has increase by 2-3 years and hence younger player debut is also shifted by 2 yrs, this has also to do with less developed power game of player by 21-23 yo for current white-ball. As for both Kolhi and Rohit were mo batters and team needed mo batter, do not want to go into why dhoni removed sachin/Sehwag/Gambhir bt it was nt to include Kolhi and Rohit. Rohit and kolhi were the top talent at that time, right now there are multiple players plus there are seniors who are doing relatively well. Some player may get leapfoged or just see the bus leaving -- This is happening to Rutu who was seen as the next opener after rohit but his chance never came , jaiswal is top potential player hence he is been kept in the loop. He is getting his chances. he is 24 yo and by the timelines he will be a permanent player by 25 yrs. Gill has also gone through the same thing. As for wc its clear rohit will open unless he himself calls it a day. donot think he is going to do that, he retired after t20i wc and then from tests. Winning a wc could have easily given him 2 more yrs in t20is bt he may have been asked to let go of the format for secure spot in Odis till the wc. Edited June 21 by tapandrun

Jaiswal is already an established player and has been our best Test batter since the past 3-4 years. Ishan has been playing intls since the last 3-4 years. Sai performed so well in SA almost 5 years ago. Yet all 3 can't be starters coz they're waiting for 40 year olds to retire and selectors are not doing their job. Our youngsters have shown they can deliver. They beat Aus in Aus in 2020-21 and look at how they performed in the recent WT20! We heard so many fanboys claim that India would "struggle" without Kohli and Rohit or how they've been propping up the team. Yet youngsters showed that we've under-performed with the way they've shown up every time they got a chance. Can you seriously believe India would've scored 250+ in knockouts in WT20 with the so called "experienced" players? The ODI WC is 1.5 years away. There's enough time to build a decent team but we're still going with the safe option with "experienced" players. You don't win tourneys by playing "safe". Do you truly believe a team consisting of Rohit, Kohli, KL and Jadeja/Sundar can win a WC? Do you really believe they can do what our youngsters did in WT20, i.e. blow the opponents away in knockouts? I don't. I've never seen them raise their games in must-wins or put the game away. They've consistently scored below-par and if we don't make any changes, it'll be the same old story. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing but expecting different results. How is our selection not insanity at this point when we're selecting nearly the same team but all the so called "experienced" players 4 years older and we don't have an in-form peak Shami anymore.

The ICC did not see it that way and neither did most of the logical fans. If he did not score in that innings we would not have reached 170+. The ones reacting to your post also agreed with that, I know your favourite was kicked out of yhe team and given no respect whatsoever but there is no reason to hate on those who actually won us ICC trophies. Secondly, the espn impact metrics counts str rate too so its not just based on balls faced lol. It is an impact metrics counts str, which means Kohli had a great impact with the bat and no one with a working brain would be able to refute that. That innings was th difference between us collapsing on 120 and rwachin 170+.

express bowling Posted June 21 Posted June 21 (edited) The biggest problem with having aging super-duper stars, in the scheme of things for a tournament 15 months away, is that ... they will HAVE to be in the playing 11 irrespective of their form and ability 15 months later. Now it is possible that both will do well ... or atleast one will do well ( Kohli has a better chance of batting well ) ... but even if they look totally out of sorts, or Sooryavanshi or Jaiswal look as clearly better picks a year later, the super-duper stars will have to be picked. Compare this with a young star like Gill. Was forcefully brought in the T20I 11. But could be removed for the T20 WC 26 as other top order batters looked much better T20I prospects. This would not have been possible with aging super-duper stars. Plus the whole batting order will have to be arranged keeping their spots fixed. Now, if a year later, Kohli and Rohit seem like the 2 best picks for top 3, I have no problem in them getting selected. But their selection won't be on merit if they decide to play.
