Jasprit bumrah has  234 test wicket ckets @ 19.79

 

thats the best avg for any fast bowler with more than 100 test wickets.

 

to find someone better you have to 100 years back to syd barnes

i think by the end of of his career bumrah would firmly sit at the very top of the goat discussion

Apart from amazing stats, Bumrah's impact is amazing too.

Bumrah's addition, to our test match bowling unit in January 2018, actually completely transformed our pace unit in overseas tests and we have won and drawn Away series regularly after that.

 

He was a strike bowler, enforcer and accurate guy rolled into one from 2017 to 2022.  Amazing, isn't it !

Bumrah does not have a good record against NZ. He has a great chance to correct this when India tours NZ later in the year. Right now he is definitely in the conversation but it will also depend on how he does in the last 3-4 years of his career.

Most pacers do.

 

Bumrah has had only 2 major non-impact injuries .. mid 2022 to mid 2023 .. Aug 2019 to Dec 2019.

His injuries are not due to being lazy or unfit. Everybody's body is different. He has a unique action that puts additional strain at point-of-delivery. You cannot hold that against him. 

 

Another way to look at his career is --- just imagine if he was injury-free. He'd have 350+ test wkts at sub 20 average. That's scary good.

General comment regarding injuries:

 

We keyboard warriors are so quick to invalidate players' injuries. Gill's neck injury? Oh it's just a sprain, he is being a diva. Until it comes out that it was a pinched nerve due to a bulging disc.

 

Bumrah? Oh ... he's a snowflake.

 

These are ridiculously callous takes.It's not like they are storm-troopers - all built from the same parts in the same way. People's bodies are different. Every human is a different model, so to speak. How they manage their bodies and still contribute significantly to team success is critical.

 

And don't get started with the - but he plays IPL. Of course he does. If you don't want him to - well, compensate him to play gruelling tests "for the country" at a level that will mitigate loss of IPL income. Until then, he must play IPL and maximize his earning potential. That's what every one of us would do. In the end, it's just a job for a team. And when these guys step in the field, they are 100% committed to whatever team they are representing. Country or State or franchise. As long as they fulfill their commitment to that contract, we need to shut up and sit down.

Let me add that they have really short careers as players. Bumrah, the player. will be done in 4 to 5 more years. So, it's natural to maximize earning potential.

Bumrah has played around 72% to 74% of the tests that India has played since his test debut.

 

That is not a low % for a genuine fast bowler.

After crossing 200 wkt landmark...I can say, yes he is now. There is sufficient performances across the world.

 

Would I like him to hit 250 & 300 wkt landmark to make his case undebatable..yes I do.

 

But the sample size is enough to say that he not only survived but actually triumphed Test cricket for 8-9 years, that too in an era where sixes and fours can be conceded even by the edge of a bat, balls are balanced & take special ability to move it both ways...to top it off, he didnt had an opportunity to bowl with bottle caps or sandpaper.

 

Had in played in the era of 1980s-1990s..he would have averaged around 14-16. Maybe even 10-12 as he is a magician with the ball. The most complete bowler I have seen.
