lemsip Posted September 1 Posted September 1 Over the last year Bumrah has been played in pointless T20s ( vs Ireland, Oman, Afghanistan) while missing tests but not missing any IPL fixtures. Probably a reasonable indication of priorities going forward. Would be surprised if he features heavily in the NZ or Aus tests.

Maybe he knows his body is not going to withstand the rigors of even 50 over cricket forget test cricket.If he was there in SL maybe India would have won both tests. Otherwise it makes no sense for him to play this series.
tapandrun Posted September 1 Posted September 1 Bhumrah has to make a choice with his career if he want to continue all 3 formats , yes he may be playing all the games but still need to make -up his mind. 3 diff formats req. 3 diff skill set. And he already has had 2/3 back injuries he needs to pick one format.

They will play him atleast till T20 WC 2028, if he survives for 2030 then its a miracle. Tests, well, its entirely upto him. I would like to get to 300 Test wkts and improve his numbers vs NZ. He may need to play atleast 12-15 Tests to reach to that number.

I think his skill levels and fitness for tests will continue to drop simply because he is getting older and he has not actually been playing any tests for coming up to a year now. To maintain their edge, bowlers need to be bowling and building test match workloads and all Bumrah has been playing is white ball cricket with much smaller loads. Even if he were to come back for a test or two, chances are high he would pick up a fresh injury due to lack of regular test level loads.

Anyway he plays IPL.

That was made clear by Indian TM in England last year

For a 4 Test series, he can play 2 back to back tests, then rest in third and play again in fourth. He was overbowled in Australia coz everyone was sucking balls. Thats where he started to hold himself and hence kept on missing matches in England. express bowling 1

That is possible in theory but in reality it is very unlikely that a player who has not played any test cricket for almost a year can take on that level of intensity in workload especially considering his fitness record and age. India need younger, fitter pace bowlers to be introduced and start leading the attack in tests.

It has to be seen, I feel Bumrah's body can survive 2 Tests back to back...provided he gets support from other bowlers. Problem is we are not promoting the right fast bowlers. Prasidh is doing ok, Akashdeep's fitness is iffy, Siraj is just 2-3 months younger than Bumrah....where are the next gen bowlers ? Anshul Kambojh & Arshdeep arent the solutions. Neither is Aaqib Nabi who is another gentle kiss the surface trundler. Gurnoor needs to debut in WI series and has to be part of NZ series as well. Ashok, once he is fit should be tried as well, he can reverse the ball on subcontinent. Zonal selectors are even stupid and biased. Taking an example of Andhra team...they will play Sasikanth or S Raju or CV Stephen over Prithviraj Yarra, who is a genuine left arm bowler that can clock mid 130s to early 140s Kerala Team is has bowlers Basil, Nidheesh, Sharefudden all are in 30s..Eden is just 21 but not being played. J&K cricket team is promoting Aaqib Nabi while they never gave the similar backing to Umar Nazir or Yudhvir. Now both are either in 30s or close to 30s. Umran is another one who is just 25-26 but lost in bewilderness. Likes of Ashok Sharma & Ravi Bishnoi have to move away from Rajasthan to West Zone for the same reason. express bowling and putrevus 2
