Cheeka to succeed Vengsarkar? KOLKATA: The BCCI may have decided to start paying its selectors, but the hunt for 'right' candidates is turning out to be arduous. There is no shortage of keen ex-players, but the problem is that most lack the stature and experience. Almost every former Test cricketer has a lucrative TV assignment that pays much more than BCCI's package of Rs 25 lakh per annum. The BCCI has not made it any easier for itself by laying down certain eligibility criteria like candidates should have retired 10 years back and that they cannot hold any post in any state association. There is every possibility that these requirements will either be modified or scrapped by the AGM under pressure from several units. If BCCI insiders are to be believed, current chairman of the selection committee, Dilip Vengsarkar, is on his way out. He is likely to be replaced by Tamil Nadu's Krishnamachari Srikkanth. The dashing opener of yesteryears has his fingers in too many pies, including IPL outfit Chennai Super Kings, but the lure of the limelight may draw him into the fold. It's an interesting race in East Zone where the CAB is set to appoint Sambaran Banerjee as its chairman of selectors when the BCCI has narrowed down its choice to two - Gopal Bose and Raja Venkat. Narendra Hirwani is the frontrunner from Central Zone, while former selector Yashpal Sharma may get a second chance from North. The situation is fluid in West Zone, where it's a close fight between Lalchand Rajput and Yajurvindra Singh. http://cricket.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/3500310.cms

I would be shocked if Srikkanth is made the chief selector.
why is that yodaman? Do you think his selection would get poorer as his inning progresses - just like his batting?

yoda is right, it'd be shocking if they even consider someone from TN :D most likely, cheeka stuff is just rumor

Vengsarkar has been our best selector in last twenty years..gave oppurtunity to so many good players...also sent out message by dropping Ganguly earlier... respect to the guy at topic- one thing i will be happy with Cheeka being the main selector is that hez the biggest fan of Sehwag ... i remember him saying that he will never drop Sehwag..Sehwag is a must for us in all 3 formats!!

The panel which i would have would be Navjot Sidhu Sandip Patil Mohinder Amarnath Ravi Shastri Sunil Gavaskar
I would never have Sidhu in that panel. He will eat up major time in his sidhuisms and he is way too loud and stubborn. He does not have good listening skills. I never remember him patiently listen to his colleagues in a discussion or a debate, he has a powerful voice and he always tries to dominate trying to make his opponent silly. Not good for meetings, discussions and decisions. Too stubborn.

two reasons: 1. he is a big mouth. can't keep his trap shut. 2. he is from that part of the country which is traditionally ignored btw, his innings rarely progressed. and when they did, on those rare occasions, they typically got progressively better.

I dont know why people from TN have to keep playing this 'victim' card, every now and then. Its very unfortunate. My ideal selection commitee would have: Mohinder Amarnath - No introductions needed, he seems a very level-headed person Ravi Shastri - Forward thinking, liberal Kirti Azad - Fearless, bipartisan. He wouldnt hesitate to take some tough decisions. xxxx - Someone who knows about FC cricketers really well. Doesnt matter even if he's a no-name

Wen ppl, like Kiran More, V Raju had been selectors, why not Sreekanth? He had been Indian captain for a short while as well... And I'm sure he did well in the Chennai Super Kings selection. Not sure whether he can head the committe, but defintely he can be a member of the committee

Srikanth would be a fantastic option. Ofcourse its going to be a bumpy ride but i am all for him. Yoda pointed out he has a big mouth but clean men usually do. Hope he gets it.

haha - then I say more power to Cheekah - We will interesting dialogues to hear, from BCCI to other selectors plus his selection will improve as his innings goes on !!

>>>Mohinder Amarnath - No introductions needed, he seems a very level-headed person...can't say much... Ravi Shastri - Forward thinking, liberal..............has far too many things to pay him more than what he will get here. Besides ,he is one of those who like to just talk and never walk the talk. He will never take a job where he will be held accountable. Kirti Azad - Fearless, bipartisan. ...He is a politician...and he comes as a guest speaker on those "lets humiliate our cricketers" channels. He has stooped so low in criticising the players that very few cricketers will have any respect for him.I guess that is not a prerequisite anyways
