Sachinism
Pakistan national cricket team coach Geoff Lawson will not be kept on once his contract expires next April. "The day his contract expires he will be no more with the Pakistan team," newly appointed Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt told reporters in the eastern city of Lahore. "We will suffer a huge financial loss if we terminate his contract now," Butt added. Former chairman Nasim Ashraf appointed Lawson as coach with a two-year contract last year, but under the Australian's stewardship Pakistan has lost two important Test series, against South Africa at home and against India in India last year. Pakistan also failed to qualify for the final of the Asia Cup at home in July. A leading Urdu language newspaper, The Daily Jang, reported Monday that Lawson is paid $US30,000 ($A43,000) a month and that if his contract is terminated the PCB board has to pay him three months salary. Former Pakistan test players have also demanded Lawson's removal, notably ex-Test opener Mohsin Khan. "Lawson has no calibre to coach at the top level," Khan said last week. "He was a second string bowler in his playing days when fiery pacemen Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson ruled the world. Even Terry Alderman was ahead of him." Lawson, 50, played 46 tests from 1980-89, taking 180 wickets at an average of 30.56. Butt also said that national team captain Shoaib Malik's performance would be reviewed when his current contract ends in December. http://wwos.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=650366 Link to comment
King
It's so dumb of the PCB CEO to come up with a statement like this well before the contract finishes in April'2009. How do you expect someone to deliver anything or take his job seriously when you already tell him you are going to fire him in another 5 months and the only reason you are there is because we cannot afford to pay you before hand? Moreover Pakistan has not played a single test match this year against test playing nations other than Bangladesh. How are they going to measure Lawson's success? PCB looks to have choosen another clown to lead them while the cricketing legends spend all their time outside their country helping players from other nationality develop. Link to comment
Ram
Its obvious, one of the main reasons why Lawson is still around in Pakistan despite getting hammered by all sundry is monetary considerations. If he quits half-way and goes, he stands to lose a lot of money. On the other hand, if PCB terminates his contract midway, they need to pay huge sums of money too. Link to comment
Desi Cartman
I think Lawson should give few interviews and piss PCB off and get fired :D Link to comment

DomainK
Typical PCB. Statements to get tv footage, stay in the news. Pakistan cricket is sinking lower and lower and they have only themselves to blame. Link to comment
beetle
Who will ever want to work for theseJaahilpeople?
