Sure, there have been accusations of corruption thrown at her and she is far from perfect. But purely interms of having all the skills required for the job (bipartisan, tough, articulate, non-compromising, fearless), she scores over every other women candidate. The only other person I can think of who's also in contention is Mayawati, given her mass popularity. Her victory in the UP elections last year was remarkable. But as far as Amma goes, you'd be lucky to see another women as tough as her. In 96, ADMK was absolutely routed in the assembly elections, everyone felt that was the end of their story. But, incredibly, ADMK won back power in 2001, to the shock and awe of EVERY political observer. And not just that, under her, Tamil Nadu made massive strides in handling of state's finances, education, AIDS control, Polio erdadication, Industry AND agriculture. But most importantly, she is the right candidate to deal with the threats of national security.

Like I said had their been ban against crooks 99.9999% of politicians would not qualify.. Although my first preference wud have bene non-crook but I don't see any female non-crook but capable politician around. Impassioned assessment of her biodata says she was not good at her job which was policing. She does know how to remain in news though.. Yes yes I know she got Magsasay awards and these awards are 1% work and 99% PR. We all have seen how an asain hero SuniL Goswamy turned out a crook and henchman of laloo and his criminal brother-in-law in bihar bureacruacy. Best part is this never was a secret in Bihar all knew this gentleman used to touch laloo's feet carry around his sandals. He was your classic fawning boot-licker,yet media-managemnt due to single act of his at behest of laloo of asking L K Aadavni to stop his address just because he was five minutes beyond limit set by election commission made him a darling of media and eventually asia hero award followed. We all found he was nothign but a crook which btw majority of bureacrats are. Poor guys is no more. Somethign tells me it's not natural death most probably he knew too much for the comfort of laloo gang. Moral of the story Kiran bedi doesn't fit the bill of capable PM material because she was all drama and no work in her role as IPS.

If you havent, you should. Lets all remind ourselves at this moment that this was Karan Thapar, someone who had made Narendra Modi walk out of an interview in less than 2 mins... Someone who made the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekara Reddy absolutely piss in his pants in another show. But Amma was absolutely defiant. She not matched Thapar in verbal shots, but even outshone him. I remember one particular anecdote from that interview. Karan Thapar: *Asks a tricky question* Amma: I would not like to comment on it. Thapar: How can you not want to reply? Amma (with an unflappable expression on her face): As an individual, I reserve the right to decide which questions I want to answer and which I dont want to answer. Thapar: *Stumped by that reply*

I can tell a smart lady when I see one. She comes of as someone who can read the balance sheet and make sense of it. Can't say the same about the other ladies in indian political scene.. I am no fan of her for cooking up case against Shankaracharya but capable she is no doubt about it PS: In defence of NAMO English is not his forte one should see him at work in Hindi interview. Yes he is squeaky clean. But again thsi is different topic

Her middle name is swindling. Unless her conscience has massively bothered her, and she has undergone a total ulta change of heart, she'll swindle the treasury with her smartness and gain up on personal wealth like you'd have never thought of.

DMK which was vanquished in 2001, has come back to power now in last election. Everybody had ruled them out in 2001. So, TN always votes out the incumbent.

ADMK was absolutely routed in 96. And when I say routed, I mean absolutely HAMMERED. DMK came to govt. riding on a massive mandate of the people and they played the cards brilliantly. If anything, the DMK govt. was very popular among the people, but amazingly, lost the 2001 election. So, it wasnt simply anti-incumbency at work.
