Lurker Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 What's zingoism? Jingoism. What you are saying has no bearing and is very unrelated to the point I am making which is that Dhoni's statements are on the money given Pak's export of terrorism to India and he's correct in expressing relief. Your extrapolation of bringing England in is irrelevant because India doesn't export terrorism to England. It absolutely does. One of my earlier post within this thread was about how Pakistani experts were falling over each other categorizing India as a dangerous place post Mumbai. Your assertion was they were in denial because there is a difference between home grown and imported. My last reply to you was very much on that line. Nobody, certainly not a tourist, cares the origin of the terrorist. So long as they can be attacked in a nation the nation is deemed unsafe. Now you can try to spin it any which way but that remains the fact.
Holysmoke Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/pakvsl/content/current/story/393312.html Look at what Eunice Khan had to say: ""Thank God we decided to leave our hotel five minutes after the Sri Lankans," he said." So, why should only Dhoni feel relieved that he was not the one with sharpnel wounds on his body!
Sachinism Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 There is nothing wrong in what Dhoni said, its the simple truth There is no point in trying to be PC, what does it achieve, fark all He didn't mean it in a bad way, just being thankful him and the team weren't there, if people can't accept that, that is their problem.
Fontaine Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 I beleive I have clearly suggested what is the situation at hand and how Dhoni's comments wont do anything to help the situation. Read my first post' date=' it started with a "Bad timing" comment. Anyway I beleive we are both steadfast on our ideas on this thing, lets agree to disagree.[/quote'] Fair enough. I was just curious as to how you came to the conclusion that Dhoni is not informed or does not know about the situation there. I do find it interesting though that you haven't provided a single shred of evidence backing up that opinion even though you've been given plenty of opportunity in this thread. Maybe next time you'll state your opinion as an opinion (which I have nothing against) rather than passing it off as some sort of fact.
Desi Cartman Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 if I was supposed to take an Air Pak flight for business purpose and I didnt not believe that it was safe enough and I convince my manager to let me take another flight ... If the Air Pak crashes then is it wrong to say "thank god I wasnt on that flight"
Fontaine Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 if I was supposed to take an Air Pak flight for business purpose and I didnt not believe that it was safe enough and I convince my manager to let me take another flight ... If the Air Pak crashes then is it wrong to say "thank god I wasnt on that flight" If you said it? Then no one would care! :--D However, if you were some cricket player then your every comment would be judged and openly criticized and you would have people like Lurker saying you have bad timing and should keep quiet unless you understand the matter (like he apparently does). Also your strike rate sucks in T20s and you should be dropped!!!
Rajan Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 so what if he is the indian captain, cant he say what he shud be feeling. in fact Vettori/Ponting/Strauss/Smith were not in the same position as Dhoni. Among all the countries which were supposed to tour Pakistan and dropped the plans, India was the latest. Dhoni is the indian captain. dhoni is asked to comment about the terrorist attack on players in Lahore. it is very natural for him to be relieved that his team's tour as called off and he was not there. pray, tell me what was wrong with his statement!!! By God, how can Dhoni's statement 'complicate' the situation?
Laaloo Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Well at least he wasnt laughing like Eunich Khan. And these pakis still live in denial that Dhonis words were wrong.
veeru_rocks Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Lurker mian should scan his passport's front page and post here for the benfit of the people of this board..
Freedom Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 All Paks live in constant denial. For them whatever happens in Pakistan its all because of BCCI and India. Pakistan is surely reaping the seeds it sowed to disintegrate a neighboring country. Lets see whats in store for them for the next 5 years. Not just cricket, but Pakistan as a whole is unfit to host any games. Whatever Dhoni said was correct. If I were in the same situation, I would have said the same thing.

I mean we are planning on sending a man to the moon and they are still hoping for afridi to get his form back, beast my a**
EnterTheVoid Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Dhoni is wrong. Pakistan is safe for terrorists only :-D
Zap_Brannigan Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Dhoni is wrong. Pakistan is safe for terrorists only :-D Obviously. 5 policemen dead and all the "jihadis" escaped. Why are we calling them terrorists? Isnt it the paki thing to call them jihadi who fight for allah and martyrs. We shd call them jihadi and martyrs.
Gambit Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 Jingoism. I am a nationalist and I want the best for my country but I'm not jingoistic. If you think that it adds credence to your posts by rubbishing my points by calling my jingoistic, then so be it. Incorrect. My assertion was that Pak and its citizens are in denial and refuse to accept that their country is a global terrorism hub. And we have seen ample evidence of that being true. Hence, their comments hold no weight. They suffer from Anyone but Pakistan syndrome when it comes to explaining terrorist attacks. Dhoni's statement however is cent per cent valid and we should be very relieved indeed that we didn't send our team to that hell hole.
King Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Hear some really home hitting comments from the rest. Dhoni's statement hardly compares, these are accusing the Pakistan officials of either having a hand or instigating it : Australian cricket umpires caught in the Lahore terror attack and the Sri Lankan spin bowler have backed British referee Chris Broad's claims that the attacks could have been part of a wider conspiracy, and said they were abandoned by police when shooting began. "We were caught in a war zone," umpire Simon Taufel said as he returned home. "We were left on our own in our time of need." Mr Taufel and his fellow Australian umpire Steve Davis were with Mr Broad on a bus carrying officials following the Sri Lankan team coach when at least 12 gunmen staged an ambush at a roundabout near Gaddafi stadium on Tuesday. The attack left eight people dead including their driver and six police officers, and wounded eight Sri Lankan players. Yesterday Mr Broad said the attack could have been part of a wider conspiracy, and accused Pakistani security forces of leaving the vehicles like "sitting ducks." "We were promised high level security and in our hour of need, that security vanished," he told reporters on his return to Britain. He also asked why the Pakistani team bus was, unusually, delayed for five minutes. Today, Mr Taufel and Mr Davis backed his claims of conspiracy and asked why they were left helpless and alone. Mr Taufel confirmed to The Times that while the two teams had travelled to the stadium together on the previous two days, on Tuesday there was a five minute delay before the Pakistani team left. "One thing I have been impressed about in Pakistan as that logistically they are usually very well organised. They normally depart on time," he said. "We knew we were departing at 8.30 a.m on the third morning. As to why the Pakistani team left at a different time, I don't know." Spin bowler Muttiah Muralitheran also questioned whether the terrorists had inside information. "Somehow in this incident there were no police with guns on the bus," Muralitharan told Radio5aa in Adelaide. "If someone was there with a gun we would have had a chance of defending ourselves. "Normally all the buses go and we have four or five escorts. We left at 8.30am and Younus Khan (with the Pakistan team bus) at 8.35am.We divided into two - maybe they knew the information for the right time," he said. Their criticism came as Pakistani police issued sketches today of four of the gunmen, taken from eye witness accounts from a car owner and a rickshaw driver, according to city police inspector Asif Rashid. "They appear to be 25 to 30 years old," he said. As he greeted his wife Helen and sons Jack and Harry at Sydney airport, a furious Mr Taufel said he felt abandoned, and expected to be shot at any minute as bullets peppered the officials' van. "The gunfire ... it just kept going," he told reporters. "We thought, when's it going to stop? Who's going to come and save us, how are we going to get out of here? I was expecting to get a bullet. "The driver got a second bullet to the head, his foot fell on the accelerator. It was quite loud. We didn't know he was dead.” Mr Taufel said there were three vans and four police motorcyles in their convoy but after the attacks they were on their own. "There were not other police vehicles, or any other police defending us," he said. "There was noone protecting us during the firing. "We were isolated, left alone, unaccounted for. We were not given the same security as the playing staff. We were defenceless, helpless, left on our own. I am angry that we were isolated, that we didn't get the same level of security. I am angry. "You tell me why supposedly 20 armed commandos were in our convoy and when the team bus got going again, we were left on our own? I don't have any answers to these questions." He added: "We were promised a nine (out of 10 on security) and got delivered a two. "Our van was caught in a situation where we were wholly exposed. It is not a situation I have been in before," he said. "Cricket has suffered a great loss. It is just a bloody game of cricket and we are in a war.” Mehar Mohamnmed Khalil, the driver of the Sri Lankan bus, told The Times again today that the Sri Lankan and Pakistani teams had driven separately, with separate escorts, to the stadiums for the first two days of the Test match. Mr Khalil, who was de-briefed by Pakistani police on Tuesday evening, said the Sri Lankan team's escort included four police vans with six armed officers in each, one police jeep carrying the commanding officer, and four police outriders. He also denied that the Pakistani team had been delayed by five minutes, or that the security escort had been split between the two teams. However, his version of events has now been contradicted by Mr Muralitharan and three other passengers in the convoy. Younis Khan, the Pakistani captain, told a news conference on Tuesday: "Thank God we decided to leave our hotel five minutes after the Sri Lankans." Australian umpire Steve Davis said as he arrived at Melbourne airport; "There's a bit of anger there that we were let down - we had all sorts of assurances before and I'm sure the (Sri Lankan) team feels that way too," Mr Davis said as he arrived at Melbourne airport. "Despite all that, this was still able to happen and we were put in a very vulnerable position and felt very helpless." Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pakistan's foreign Minister told a news conference with his Sri Lankan counterpart that investigators were following important leads that would eventually unearth the culprits. Rohitha Bogollagama, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister said it was the first attack on Sri Lankans outside the country and he did not rule out the possibility the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were involved. Khusro Pervaiz, the Lahore administrator, admitted police had warned authorities the Sri Lankan team was at risk. "It's correct that we were forewarned ... there were many pieces of information which came to us," he told Pakistan's Dawn Television. Security for the team could have been 'much, much better,' he said. Officials have offered a reward of $125,000 for information about the men responsible for the attack. A large weapons cache, anti-personnel mines and two unexploded car bombs were found at the scene. ============================================================================== You guys are debating Dhoni when a much more serious allegation is being thrown around by the umpires and other staff. Dhoni is thanking stars he wasn't there, am sure that is the first thing that comes to mind to any person that has a good life. What did you guys expect him to say? Something like this "I should have been there, I'm so sorry I missed out an opportunity to get a few (bullets) today. The spraying bullets would have helped my keeping as that would have been life and death situation and would have taught the best way to dive around. My diving would have been honed if I had been there instead. Probably could have tested my helmet and the bat as well. I'm extremely sorry I missed out on the golden opportunity of playing wth no fear prior to the test series. " Get a life, don't expect everyone to be politically correct when their lives are under threat.
