BCCI hits out at Kirsten for IPL remarks 16 Jun 2009, 1659 hrs IST, TIMESOFINDIA.COM NEW DELHI: Just after Team India coach Gary Kirsten raised hands at the Indian Premier league (IPL) for the team's early exit from the T20 World Cup, Indian Board came out with sharp criticism of the coach. Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BBCI) media and finance committee chairman Rajiv Shukla said players have the choice and they know about the schedule. "If any player is not fit or injured, he should inform the board; we have enough replacements," said Shukla. Meanwhile the IPL franchises also sharply criticised the coach for his remarks on the IPL. Mumbai Indians coach Praveen Amre said, "Gary Kirsten wouldn't have blamed the IPL, had India defeated England." Kolkata Knight Riders coach John Buchanan said, "IPL was a good preparation before the T20 World Cup." http://cricket.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/4663065.cms

I think the WC is before IPL-3. I read somewhere that it will be held in March.
Starts in April third week, according to FTP. But that may be changeable - the only things scheduled for March are the Asia Cup and a Zim tour of WI. But now, players will be too fatigued to play in the IPL after the World Cup.

Obviously, the BCCI wants no negative publicity regarding IPL whatsoever. But Gary is our coach. He's almost like a father figure to our boys and he will look out for them. So, if they're tired and jaded, he will speak out. Going by his tenure so far, he does not seem to be the one who makes controversial statements to the press by accident. He could have convyed this opinion in private too, to the BCCI. But it looks like he wants to stir a public debate about the demands of excessive cricket. Unfortunately, this statement will also prove to cannon fodder to those jealous Pakistanis who have all along denied that IPL has had any positive impact on our cricket, especially since Pakistanis did not play in the last version. This will be a great chance for those numbheads to say 'I told ya hey? IPL is no good...'

Who the hell makes up these headlines? "BCCI Hits out?" It was just an observation from Shukla and no criticism of Kirsten or his comments. As a matter of fact it was the exact opposite, Shukla said specifically that Kirsten's comment were there for the improvement of the team and would be taken under consideration.
