Well Batted Virat... Virat is a must for ODIs.. but then again, I dont think there is a place for him... Below is list of all the batsmen who all are equally matchwinners ... but if any1 gets injured, Virat should get the chance to play.. not Test players like Murli Vijay or that malnutrinioned guy Ravinder Jadeja... Sehwag Gambhir Sachin Dhoni Yuvraj Raina Yousuf

Rahulrulez, we all know that Tendulkar doesn't play all odi series because he likes resting during those not so important series. During that period Virat Kohli is a must, i don't know what came in selectors mind that they simply never picked him after that lankan series. Not that he was injured or anything. He should have been atleast kept in the squad if not given a chance to play rite away in the team.

Tyagi has taken 2 wickets and Mishra one; Sangwan has been slaughtered and they've decided to go after B Kumar this time. Why on earth did they include Kulkarni and Vijay for final when these two have been the biggest flops of the tournament? Something certainly doesn't look right here?

Btw Chandan, I am surprised to see Naman Ojha not being selected in finals. I thought he batted well in this tournament in whatever chance he was given. So we haven't unearthed any decent pace bowlers through this tournament. Mishra surprisingly has done well considering Aussie pitches offer least assistance to spinners. Kohli, Rahane, Nayar have been our stars with the bat in this tournament and I hope people finally give it a rest to Badri's inclusion in our limited overs side.

It was Kulkarni who ran the batsman out. But Kulkarni shouldn't have played today. Ashwin would have been quite useful. It seems that slower bowlers are successful here. And I just can't find any logic behind Vijay's inclusion. The guy is woefully out of form and has scored just 20 runs in the entire tournament. Why would you drop Ojha for him? Ojha can give you quickfire 20-30 or sometimes even more!

Most of the pitches have been low and slow ones it seems. Wonder if they are playing with green and orange balls today too! Tyagi was outstanding with the ball but he is quite an injury prone fellow. So don't have any hope from him. BTW, Tyagi, Mishra and Nayar are not 100% fit for this final.

India wins What a fantastic finish!! Had they not got SA all out in this over, run penalty would have been applied as India were incredibly slow in their over rate. The bowlers had bowled 22 wides and no balls. I just can't believe how India could win after such a terrible start of tournament. This is the scorecard of this match:

Let us see how the Indian batsmen were didmissed: Over 0.3: Tsotsobe to Rahane, SIX, great shot!! Short ball outside off stump and Rahane leans back to lift the ball over cover! Over 0.4: Tsotsobe to Rahane, no run, OUT, and Tsotsobe hits back straight away with a quick ball hitting the pads and picking up the lbw!! IND 1/7 Looks like Rahane was in a hurry today! Over 0.5: Tsotsobe to Vijay, no run, OUT, gone first ball!! Another full ball, on the pads and he's out lbw as well!! Tsotsobe on a hat-trick, IND 2/7 This guy has been absolutely useless in the tournament. So it is harly a surprise that he missed a full and straight ball. Over 9.4: Theron to Badrinath, no run, OUT, prods forward to defend and gets an edge straight to keeper Kuhn. IND 3/56 At least this time it wasn't a short ball. Over 20.5: Tshabalala to Kohli, no run, OUT, a mix-up and a run out from nowhere! Kohli turns the ball behind square, Nayar runs but sent back. van Jaarsveld throws on the bounce to the bowler and finds Nayar short! IND 4/103 Unlucky! Over 21.4: de Villiers to Tiwary, no run, OUT, gone first ball! Tiwary pushes forward to defend and gets an edge through to Kuhn. IND 5/109 Tiwari has failed badly in this tour! Over 35.2: Theron to Kohli, no run, OUT, smashes a drive but straight to Behardien at extra cover who takes the catch chest high. It was flying, good catch but a great innings. IND 6/187 No problem. Over 41.6: Tsotsobe to Kumar, no run, OUT, great catch by Tsotsobe! Low full toss was defended, the ball bobbled back down the pitch and the tall bowler plucked it in his left hand just millimetres off the ground! IND 7/213 Over 49.1: Tsotsobe to Saha, no run, OUT, scooped away high in the air but it won't clear the field. Tshabalala at mid on backtracks and takes a good catch. Good innings too, IND 8/274 trying to score quickly in the final over. No problem! So not much technical problem in this match! .

Emerging Players Tournament, Brisbane, 10th day India take Emerging Players title Cricinfo staff August 1, 2009 India Emerging Players 9 for 283 (Kohli 104, Saha 74, Tsotsobe 5-69) beat South Africa Emerging Players 266 (Davids 82, Tyagi 4-72) by 17 runs Scorecard India Emerging Players, aided by Virat Kohli's century and Sudeep Tyagi's four wickets, clinched the Emerging Players Tournament by defeating South Africa at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane. In South Africa's only loss of the tournament they went down to India in the final by 17 runs, losing their last five wickets for 30 runs. Vaughan van Jaarsveld, the South African captain, chose to give his bowlers first use of the surface and Lonwabe Tsotsobe dealt the early advantage. Tsotsobe, the tall left-arm fast bowler, trapped Ajinkya Rahane lbw in the first over, the ball after the opener smacked him for six over extra cover. Next ball he had M Vijay lbw for a duck with a fuller ball and India were 2 for 7. S Badrinath (20) and Kohli started a recovery but India were further rattled and found themselves half down for 109 in the 22nd over. Then Wriddhiman Saha, the wicketkeeper, added 78 with Kohli who raised his half-century from 59 balls. Kohli was particularly strong on the leg side, collecting sixes in consecutive overs with superb feet movement. Kohli brought up his century from 97 balls, a sterling effort under pressure, before he fell for 104 when driving straight to extra cover. Saha made a fine 74 and with Amit Mishra contributing 25 from 22 balls India finished on 9 for 283. Tsotsobe finished with 5 for 69. South Africa's openers put on 52 with Rilee Rossouw particularly dismissive of India's new-ball pair. He slammed 35 from just 16 balls, including consecutive sixes off Tyagi, before the bowler had his number. Tyagi struck in successive overs and thereafter India's bowlers chipped away. The blow that effectively turned the match their way was Tyagi's dismissal of Henry Davids for 82 in the 40th over, the opener steering a widish delivery to backward point. Thandi Tshabalala nicked Tyagi next ball and South Africa slumped to defeat with Misha capping a good day with two economical wickets. Australian Institute of Sports 2 for 245 (Quiney 115*, Wade 60*) beat New Zealand Emerging Players 8 for 244 (Watling 115*, Floros 3-54) by eight wickets Scorecard New Zealand Emerging Players' poor run in Australia continued with a crushing defeat at the hands of the Australian Institute of Sports in Brisbane. The third-place play-off was a 40-overs per side affair and Australia hardly broke a sweat as they chased down 245 with eight wickets and 42 deliveries remaining. This was a win set up in the field. Peter George hurt New Zealand at the top and put pressure on Watling, who responded with a mature innings that spanned the full 40 overs. Anaru Kitchen's 45 helped steady the situation with Watling but he became the first of offbreak bowler Jason Floros' three wickets. There was little else in terms of support and Watling swung his bat at the end to remain unbeaten on 115 from 104 balls as New Zealand made 244. Led by the opener Rob Quiney's unbeaten century, Australia cruised to victory. Quiney and Tom Cooper shared a 60-run opening stand after which Steven Smith, the captain, added 79 with Quiney. Once he was dismissed for a brisk 44 Matthew Wade walked in and blasted 60 from 42 balls, including five sixes, and the match was a fairly one-sided affair. GREAT WIN:yay::yay: n that completes a fantastic tournament for Virat Kohli.hope the selectors dont ignore him as they have been doing for a while n pick him above Rohit for the champion trophy instead og going to test players like Badri n Vijay(hope Badri worshipper dont cry foul n complain of bias wen they do that).Rahane also looks a good prospect but should not be picked rightaway.

Brilliant stuff from the lads. Kohli is a must for the ODI side now, he should have been around slightly earlier, around the time he finished the domestic season with a bang. Saha has been pretty impressive but I'm sure DK will remain ahead of him in the pecking order

I was going to ask the same question, though in a civilized manner! Have you seen Rahane play? What shortcomings did you notice in his game? Which batsmen, according to you, are international materia in Indian domestic circuitl? Why? I'm satisfied at Rahane. Though we don't know anything about the pitches of this tourney, but they are not similar to Indian pitches, I'm sure. In that case, Rahane has performed the best among chosen batsmen. Had Pujara and Dhawan been there, we could have seen some good batting performances!

watch Rahane against genuine pace , you will see the difference ...hes has very little time to play his shots & is good candidate for lbws & very questionable foot work...limited player , who looks good playing against avg sides/domestic ..in wasim Jaffer mould . my picks : Virat Kohli : (posted the same in old icf ) :D Kohli has always impressed me ..equally good both on the front and back foot ...arguably the best player of spin in India ..& superb timing ..all the makings of a class batsmen ..only worry is that , hes capable of going the Yuvraj way ..very questionable temperament Rohit Sharma : hasnt had the greatest of starts to his international career , but i have seen only tendulkar have the amount of time sharma has to play his shots ... very similar technique to kholi playing pace , but not the greatest players of spin ...he will be a perfect no4 for india in tests Badri is alright for a stop gap option for 2-3 years ..need to see more of Murali Vijay & Pujara , though pujara has looked quite good of the little i have seen of him . Nayar good for T20s , or may be ODIs..but not test material ...!

What a win.. What a win... i left around 2:30 am est time because i had to drop a friend who had a flight around 5 am in the morning. and then i came back to check the score, what a fantastic sight it was to open the CA site and see Saf choking yet again at the final stage. Great win.. Saf won everything in this tournament other then this final, goes on to show Indian team was the better one in terms of confidence and raising their game at the bigger stage. Well done Emerging INDIA. WELL DONE VIRAT KOHLI AND RAHANE AND TYAGI.

Okay so when did you see him against genuine pace? Rahane is a good player but needs to spend few more years at the finishing school before being considered!

You must be either out of your mind or kidding when you said that Badri can be considered for tests for 2-3 years. Sorry, but this guy can't score even at the Emerging Players' level and you're talking about tests!! Virat Kohli is good, has proved his worth at Deodhar level which is List A matches tournament. So he can be considered for ODIs and T20s. In fact I'd like to have as big a pool for ODIs as possible. But he hasn't proved himself at FC level. You may check last two years Ranji coverage on this forum only. You'll see that Kohli is not anywhere. So, forget about tests for him till he proves himself at FC matches. Rohit will come good eventually. But if doesn't get his act together quickly there are many ready to snatch his place from him. I haven't seen much of Pujara and Vijay either.
