Indian state side Karnataka won the inaugural Emerging Players Tournament in 2005, while South Africa won it in 2006 and 2007 and New Zealand last year. Some of the players who have tasted international cricket and competed in the Emerging Players Tournament since 2005 are Adam Voges, Ben Hilfenhaus, Luke Ronchi, Shaun Marsh, Callum Ferguson (Australia), Jacob Oram, Shane Bond, Hamish Marshall, Mark Gillespie, Ross Taylor, Peter Fulton, Michael Papps (New Zealand), Neil McKenzie, Robin Peterson (South Africa) and Robin Uthappa (India). Indian right-arm pacers Rahul Shukla and Nizar Niyas, both products of the MRF Pace Foundation, were on Wednesday included in the Australian Institute of Sport team for the Emerging Players Tournament starting July 20 in Queensland. The duo's selection is a part of the tie-up between the Chennai-based MRF Pace Foundation and the AIS located in Australian capital Canberra. link A 17-man Australian Institute of Sport squad has been named to take part in the Emerging Players Tournament in Queensland starting on July 20. The group will be coached by Greg Chappell and features several players with a solid base of first-class experience as well as one, Moises Henriques, who has already represented Australia. In addition to the 2009 AIS scholars, the group also includes two past AIS players, the Victoria wicketkeeper Matthew Wade and the New South Wales batsman Peter Forrest. They are joined by Rahul Shukla and Nizar Niyas from the MRF Pace Foundation, who will play with the AIS squad. "We're really pleased with the squad we have and are looking forward to seeing how players put all the work they have been doing over the past weeks into the tournament," Chappell said. "The squad has a good blend of experience ... plus emerging young players such as Triffitt, McDermott, Faulkner, and Mitchell Marsh from the Australian Under-19 squad." There will be interest in the progress of Alister McDermott, the fast-bowling son of Craig McDermott, and Mitchell Marsh, the 17-year-old son of Geoff Marsh and younger brother of Shaun. The Australian group will be aiming to win the title for the first time against sides from India, New Zealand and South Africa. Badrinath to lead emerging players squad Badrinath to lead India Emerging Players A S Badrinath will lead the Indian team in the Emerging Players Tournament to be played in Australia from July 20. Virat Kohli will be the vice-captain of the 16-man squad, announced by the selectors in Chennai on Monday. The other members in the side with international experience are legspinner Amit Mishra, opener M Vijay, allrounder Abhishek Nayar and Bengal batsman Manoj Tiwary. The quadrangular tournament, which runs from July 20 to August 1, will be played across different venues in Brisbane. The other teams are the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and the emerging players from South Africa and New Zealand. This will be the fifth edition of the tournament, and India will be looking to improve on their third-place finish last year. New Zealand are the defending champions, having beaten AIS by three wickets in the final at the Allan Border Field last year. India Emerging Players squad: S Badrinath (capt), Virat Kohli (vice-capt), M Vijay, Ajinkya Rahane, Manoj Tiwary, Ishank Jaggi, Abhishek Nayar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, R Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Wriddhiman Saha, Naman Ojha, Pankaj Singh, Dhawal Kulkarni, Pradeep Sangwan, Sudeep Tyagi ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To me this is massive opportunity of seeing if any of these chaps are ready for team India. Really hope there are some spectacular perfomances from one or two players that makes them a must for picking. Some hot batting names in squad who we all talk about. Lets see who does the business. Sadly no potential fast bowler in that squad me thinks! Unless anyone knows a name in this squad who bowls quick?

Got its share of trundlers. Kumar is supposed to be a handy paceman who can bat a bit. Im sure it was him who got Tendulkar for a duck last year- i think in fact thats his only domestic duck ever. Id have thought Dhawan and Srivastav would have been good picks... Possibly Abhinav Mukund I mean -Ishank jaggi????

Lol yes indeed. Umesh would have been an interesting pick How important is this competition? Do the Aus and NZ sides take it seriously and send their A teams ?
NZ does..the likes of Tim Southee,Jesse Ryder were fastracked into the first team based on their performance in the tournament

and what happnd to Umesh Yadav?? Isnt he supposed to be the quickest bowler?
I was looking forward to Yadav's selection too, but he was injured during IPL too, no?
Id have thought Dhawan and Srivastav would have been good picks... Possibly Abhinav Mukund I mean -Ishank jaggi????
Yes. Why were Dhawan and Mukund ignored? Is Dhawan still injured which seems unlikely as it was just a finger injury in April. How could he still be unfit to play? I hate this selection policy where the selector refuses to answer any question and the thought behind the selection or omission remains unclear!
will it be telecasted?
No. In fact last year cricinfo had not covered it live either, and we had to depend on CA website.
Pujara might still be recovering.
What on earth has happened to these young players? Why don't we get any news about them?
what happened to manish pandey ?
Just wonder why was he not chosen at least for T20 ties! The selection process is not clear at all. Meanwhile Emerging Player's coach Praveen Amre thinks that these young turks will be severely tested Down Under as their fitness will be challenged. LINK Fitness will be challenged at Emerging Players' - Amre July 12, 2009 Pravin Amre, the India's coach for the Emerging Players' tournament in Australia, has said the series challenge the players' fitness as they play seven ODIs and two Twenty20s in a span of 13 days, starting July 20. "Our fitness levels will be tested in these nine games," Amre told the Hindu. "The tournament is also a good opportunity for our players to prove their talent." The Indian squad, led by S Badrinath, is strong on paper, with seven players having international experience. But they can expect to face stiff opposition from Australia, who have several players with solid first-class base, and New Zealand, led by Peter Fulton and including fast bowler Tim Southee. The Indian team went through a skills and fitness preparatory camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore on Saturday. Badrinath, M Vijay and R Ashwin will join the camp today after playing league matches in Chennai. Bangalore has seen rain in the past week, prompting the team to have an morning nets session in anticipation of showers in the afternoon. The tournament begins on July 20, with Australia, South Africa and New Zealand being the other competing teams. The teams play each other twice, and the final will be held on August 1. New Zealand won the tournament last year, beating Australia by three wickets in the final. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Thinking the above concern in mind, these players are having a full fledges camp: Emerging Players’ camp in full swing Bangalore: It was a busy Sunday for the Indian Emerging Players’ team as the preparatory camp ahead of the Australian tour gathered steam at the National Cricket Academy. The morning session was outdoors, with nets and fielding drills while in the afternoon the players were closeted inside the gym. Skipper S. Badrinath continued to be absent but officials said he would join the camp on Monday as he had sought permission to attend a family function in Chennai. Meanwhile, the other absentees on day one — M. Vijay, R. Ashwin and Pankaj Singh — joined the camp on Sunday. All fit As the players went through their paces inside the gym, team physio Vaibhav Daga dished out a positive fitness report-card. “I am happy with the players’ fitness levels. Considering that they are coming in after a long season including the second IPL” Vaibhav said. Welcome addition The physio also expressed delight over the appointment of Ramji Srinivasan as the trainer. “I was with the squad last year too for the Emerging Players tournament in Australia and there was no one assisting me and I often (had to double up as a trainer too). Thankfully, with Ramji coming in this year, I have a clear-cut role to focus on injury management and keeping the players fresh and fit for the packed schedule ahead. It is a tough tournament against some good teams and it is physically demanding. These are the impressions I gained from last year,” Vaibhav said. The squad leaves for Mumbai on July 16 and will depart for Brisbane on July 17. _______________________________________________________________________ I think NZ has the best team this time.
