Only 4-6 letters. Many people have that as a goal when they select names these days. And yes in India, I never had a last name (just initial like Sriram mentioned). But for passport and immigration reasons, we had to fill in and so last name came into the picture.

Even in South India, it seems like we've been going with shorter names for the past couple of decades. How many letters does your real name have? Mine: First name: 7 Middle name: 0 Last name: 7. If at all possible, please keep this thread civil and free of snide North/South comments. I feel so sad for harihar.. these days its such a pain bubbling the characters of your name in the OMR sheets and I seriously can't imagine how and what a student has to go through while bubbling 20 characters :omg:
