Sreesanth loses 60% of his match fee for using offensive language © Getty Images Sreesanth, the Rest of India fast bowler, has been fined 60% of his match fee for using offensive language towards a player during the Irani Cup match against Mumbai in Nagpur. Dhawal Kulkarni, the Mumbai seamer, was let off with an official warning for instigating the bowler. KP Bhaskar, the match referee, held the hearing on Saturday evening and announced his decision today. The verdict on Sreesanth ran thus: "You are being charged under clause 2.8 of level 2 for using language that is obscene, offensive, or of a generally insulting nature to another player, umpire, referee, team official or spectators. Umpires have reported since if fell below the acceptable standards. Language will be interpreted to include gesture. You are being fined 60% of match fee and a strict warning that next time a breach in the code of conduct, you shall be charged under level 3 offense. A Level 3 offense would lead to a ban from some games, which would be at the discretion of the match referee." The incident occurred on the third morning, when Mumbai were batting. Kulkarni took a single off Sreesanth and words were exchanged as he crossed over. Kulkarni said a few words and an animated Sreesanth dragged himself into a verbal tiff. The umpires Shavir Tarapore and Amiesh Sahiba quickly got together to settle the situation but they later reported both to the match referee. Since Kulkarni had started it, the match referee's verdict ran thus: "You have been charged under clause 1.4 under level 1 for offenses for instigating and wrongly accusing the bowler from the opposition, and bringing the game to a halt. Sreesanth has been already in the dock in the past for his publicised spat with Harbhajan Singh during the IPL and various other run-ins with the opposition and umpires. During this Irani Cup, apart from his stand-off with Kulkarni, he was also involved in a exchange of words with Ramesh Powar. Both were seen taunting each other but Sreesanth later said it was just a friendly joust with his IPL team-mate and that neither of them crossed the line. Getting into a verbal tiff With a 19 yr old tail ender batsman? Sree isnt going to do his chances of a return any good with these actions. The quicker he realises this, the better it is for the team and himself.

guys chill... he is an aggressive bowler. we dont want role models here.. we have had enough of them in the past.. this is the new face of indian cricket, brash and aggressive.. and thats what will take us to the top... havent we all used some form of offensive language or the other, while posting on this forum.. so why do we have to expect the players to be saints.. let them express themselves. some may be ugly.. areed. and if it can bring out the best in them, i'm game with it.. i wud love our players to give a mouthful to other country players.

This is a ridiculous statement. Ever heard of someone called Wayne Rooney? He has as a yellow card it more than 90% of the games he played. But, due to his aggressiveness he also scores lots of goals and is one of the more successful strikers. Defenders are afraid of him as a tiff with him would also lead them to get a yellow card as well. That care-not attitude is what India requires so everyone is charged up. This is one area where Pakis shine they bring their A-game when playing against India as everyone is charged up. Except for Gambhir and Yuvraj, no one else has that aggressive streak to them in the side. The only issue with Sree is that he loses his rhythm and line if he gets clobbered for a few boundaries and has an exchange of words. If he can control his emotions and bowl with his head while bowling it doesn't matter what the hell he does before or after he bowls the ball.

Ever heard of someone called El-Hadj-Diouf, has a similar agressive streak, he has changed four clubs in the last 8 years, gets booed at every ground and is a sh!te of a player, Well the Goons just masacared him and his team 6-2, My point being, not everyone that has an agressive streak turns out to be a success. Please talk about a Non-Contact sport with your reference to agression, coz Cricket is one.

I voted for Sreesanth. coz we need him now. Aggressive cricket is not bullying and picking on junior players. But aggressive cricket is the brand of gameplay which Sachin, Sanath and Warney emulated. They never give up. They always keep attacking...no matter what the situation is.

I would keep him out of the team for sure. There are several reasons behind it: 1) He is too emotional and sometimes his emotions overpower him which is negative for him as well as the team for which he is playing. 2) The most important reason why I would keep him out is because he has not been able to prove at all in the domestic or county levels too. If he had an exceptional county season or domestic season I would have gladly accepted his inclusion but right now he does not seem to justify his inclusion by any chance.
