manjrekar was a solid player, he had a great start to his career, some good centuries agasint good pace attacks in Pak and vs the WI. I dont know what happened to the guy he could have been a really good batsman for India I mentioned Noel david earlier in this thread, but he did pick a few wickets up vs the WI when he played there. Im not sure how many times he played for India 3 or 4 maybe. Jogi Singh wasnt great but did do so well in the T20 WC final. Some harsh calls there- W V raman was ok, I dont think he was even an opener and he was made to open. But was given a consistent run in the side. As was Kuruvilla, he was picked much later than he should have been. He was like 30 I think when he made his debut and he had had some good seasons prior to that but the jokers picked the likes of Johnson and Ganesh. Kuruvilla was much better than those guys, good swinger of the ball and bowled well in the WI in 97 or 98 when we toured there.

There are to many players to list for me. But Kaif and Nehra are two that come immediatley to mind. I mention them as they have loads of backers

C'mon man. No way they belong in that list. Kaif can't hold a bat I agree, but is a gritty bat and has played a few decent knocks. I still can't forget Nehra's spell vs the Poms in 2003 WC. He doesn't belong either. We are talking about guys who have done squat/nada and their inclusion was a major aberration.

But during the tour he got injured and was replaced by R Dravid who took the opportunity with both his hands. Injuries and Dravid's consistency kept Sanj Manj out of the side.

That above list pretty much includes everyone discussed in thread hehe I would disagree with Piyush- whos only 20 after all and once he develops a good legbreak he'll be back. Sriram should have played more for india he was a good bat, but there was no room for him in indias middle order. Much better player than say Khurasiya I think VRV Singh is a good bowler. His spells in SAf on our last tour there were good, bowled whole heartedly at good pace and another day would have gotten a few wickets.

I think we are misunderstanding the intent of the question. Some of the guys when they got selected deserved it. It is altogether a different thing that they could not go on. We cannot list all the players who didn't play more than 1 or 2 test. Every country will have such a list. For instance Nilesh Kulkarni was selected purely based on his outing against Australia in the tour game. It was horses for the course. Everyone knew his career would not last long. Same with Rahul Sanghvi. I remember in 1998 Ian chappel saying Kanitkar is a better off spinner than Harbhajan singh. :haha:

Somasunder -agreed Khuraisiya- we lacked big hitters at that point D Gandhi - dint have a settled opening , but was crap Venu Rao - classy player , wuld have played more for india if we dint have a awesome batting linup in tests R Gavaskar/S Sriram - agreed D Mongia - not such a bad player Bharadwaj - won the MOS in Kenya , was a decent player again MSK Prasad -agreed J P Yadav - agreed Aashish Kapoor (8 wkts in 17 ODIs at an average of 76) - agreed D Ganesh - agreed P Vaidya - Was a decent batsmen & OK keeper ...we wer desperate for a WK who could bat at that point its easy to say they should have never played for india , but also have to see that we dint have the bench strength like we have now in those days
