Shetty concerned by younger players' attitude

Ratnakar Shetty, the Indian board's chief administrative officer, has expressed concern over the lack of focus among younger national players who, he said, were not greatly affected by the ICC Champions Trophy exit because they were distracted by a lifestyle outside the sport. "One of the senior players called up after the Champions Trophy and said other players [youngsters] did not feel it [the loss as much as him], Shetty told PTI. "He said there was no feeling whether we won or not. There is no sadness [after losing]." India exited the Champions Trophy after losing to Pakistan in the group stage. Their match against Australia was abandoned due to rain and they failed to qualify for the semis even after beating West Indies. Shetty said the lack of focus was an issue the BCCI would have to look at. "You can see the change in attitude and focus which seems to have gone to things other than cricket. They are attracted by the different style of entertainment that is part of these events. This is worrisome. "Some of these youngsters have become very big. Some of them feel that playing in Ranji Trophy is not as important as playing in the IPL." ========================================================== http://www.cricinfo.com/india/content/current/story/429382.html

Mr Shetty is the vice chairman of BCCI which runs IPL. If he feels IPL is ruining Indian cricket, why doesnt he do something about it? or are the dollars thrown at him by LM enough to keep him silent and speak only when the Team hasnt done well in one tournament. BTW the same BCCI had gagged Kirsten when after t20 WC he said IPL was adversely affecting Team India. Hypocrisy, double standards eh!

IPL/money will affect indian cricket more than it can benefit.. actually i dont see any benefits of it so far.. the only thing we all saw was we got kicked out of the 1st round frm CT09 and T20WC09 but i know no one will speak about it..
I completely agree with you.... Infact in the near future we will see a complete decline of Performance of Indian Team... India relies on a few players to win us matches and the rest are also rans... with so much cricket left right and center in India... it is difficult for Indian to keep fit and stay focussed on bigger matches... the focus dilutes away and players will carry niggles all year round.... and on top of it unlimited money flow doesnt help.... A country like Australia with a large pool of champion players in every state team wd have handled an event like IPL a bit better than wat Indian cricket will handle.... We Indians dont have that in our genes like the White teams to be competent in every situation.... Look at players like Ishanth....He was doing really well in tests and ODIs.... IPL came and he lost his balance...take Bhajji....wat has he become now..we cant even call him a spinner now...he just runs up a fires the balls...goes to hotel and comes back for the next game...Winning losing has lost the distance between them and both are almost equal for most of the Indian players..

It is true that when loads of money keeps on coming through IPL,CL,endorsements etc , it is hard to play with same passion and hunger in every interntional game. Apart from Dravid,Laxman & Mishra, India play with same players in tests,ODIs & 20/20 unless there is an injury. Next ICC tournament is 20/20 WC in 2010 and before that India play series against Aus,SL,Bangladesh,SA and Modi circus. There will definetely be injuries for India going to 20/20 WC. Pakistan have almost 3 month rest before WC because of IPL ban.:yay:

So you are one of the member of the crowd who gets amused by a quote from unknown player. What is the credibility of the article and the quotes provided by them ?

why so much talk about IPL when the OP doesn't even mention it except towards the end. players weren't playing ranji even before the IPL came into play. players make money even without IPL from ads and match fees. IPL just takes it to another level. now to the question of whether players should feel bad about a loss, I guess it depends on the individual. dhoni himself has said openly that he doesn't really worry too much about wins and losses as they will happen.

We are a hypocritical bunch arent we...it is the players right to ear money and whether he becomes egoistical because of the success and doesn't perform , then drop him and pick someone who does. While we scavenge around the world to get better jobs, more money etc players are not supposed to get the big bucks? Most of us here browse and post here during our work hours and yet we call the players not focused because their afterwork partying ?

Yes, but previously only the established or somewhat proven stars (a then young Yuvi for ex) could easily rake in the money from ads and sponsorship deals. With IPL, even players with just a little experience in Intl level can get $700-900K, and that at a very young age, then it has the potential to dimnish the raw hunger for success in international matches. The raw hunger that brings about tremendous dedication to training, fitness and relentless practice. It (easy millions too early in career) has the potential to dimnish this. Not everyone gets affected by the fame and early fortune. There will be a few who can keep a level head and prosper in International matches and gain strength from the IPL and other such CL experience. But, again, how many youngsters can be that stable like a (when they were young) Tendulkar or Laxman or Dravid ? This point was made by folks before - Dhondy or Lurker perhaps. Seems like one has to agree with that valid concern.

:nono: Not Fineleg, she can't even think of doing such a thing. :finger: I would say let them earn and burn. Those who survive, earn a lot more in long term. Lambi daud ke ghode will distinguish themselves. :yay:

There has to be something at stake to feel disappointed at the loss. Used to be national pride. Having said that India has been registering wins more often than not in recent times. How many Indian teams did the job of beating SL on their own soil in 3 successive visits. May be it is the new face of Indian side which tries to move on instead of sulking about the losses. You can look at it both ways. First of all i want to know why there is a dvision "seniors" "juniors". I know we use that term. But even players? In that case who are all seniors. Yuvraj himself is a senior. He has been playing for 8 or 9 years. Sehwag 9 years.
