Taking best case ( as per our imagination) Lets say he targets 20000. i.e. another 1889 runs @ healthy average of 60 - it will take 32 innings. That would be about another 2 years ( assuming he wont play all ODIs). Then he would end up just above 46.

And on average good players played 25 or so. Taking example of Kohli and considering, he gets to play 25 ODIs per year on an average. Kohli will need to play for another 16 years (injury free, in good form) to match the number of ODIs that Sachin has now. And Kohli is already 22+. Actually number of ODI's being played has also come down in recent years. Around 2000, India used to play 35 to 40 ODI's per year. While nowadays it has come down to around 28-30 years. Looking at trends it will go down even further in coming years as bilateral and three nation ODI series are losing their charm.

The man just seems to go up a gear when you think he's out of gas. I stand by what I said, Yuvraj has no chance of ever being spoken of in the same regard as Sachin in ODIs, (by anyone sane), BUT, Yuvraj will now always be looked upon with fondness when discussing the rich history of Indian cricket, for his unbelieveable ability to raise his game out of nowhere, playing the biggest parts in our 2007 World T20 win, and our 2011 World Cup win... In conclusion. Sachin is way greater than Yuvraj or anyone else, but ironically, without Yuvraj, Sachin would never have achieved his World Cup dream...

And its more than Ponting's ODI career tally in about additional 100 matches. Good to see Ganguly also up there, well deserved.
