Why is India called India?

Comes from the Indus river (taught in school, I remember). It's what the Europeans called us when they were frantically looking for waterway into India. But our real and original name is Bharat. Comes from the name of King Bharat who rules most of India at one time. But the Sanskrit word Bharat actually means the Universe (AFAIK).

India comes from the word Indica,Indica was derived from Indus....Indica was an account of his days in India written by greek traveller megasthenes in 250 BC....... Herodotus though is credited by many to 1st used the word INdia in 4th century BC...... India is also said to be derived from latin word Lindia(meaning beyond Indus)

because: "frack what an awesome nation! the land of intellectuals and chicks with awesome behinds"... is too long and too tedious to say every time we make a reference to the nation.
chicks with awesome behinds are the latinas .. you can say Brazil, Mexico etc. not India :headshake: Buri Nazar Wale Tera Mooh Kala :P
