Comes from the Indus river (taught in school, I remember). It's what the Europeans called us when they were frantically looking for waterway into India. But our real and original name is Bharat. Comes from the name of King Bharat who rules most of India at one time. But the Sanskrit word Bharat actually means the Universe (AFAIK).

So you owe your name to one of our rivers lol :cantstop:
HAH :hysterical: It originates in Tibet and flows through India and then into Pak. No wonder u guys whine when a dam is built, ur economy would be wiped out if India diverted its flow :finger:

Its named after the Sindhu river which in Avestan/Persian drops the 's' and sounds like Indhu. The East India Company took that name when they consolidated their hold on the entire region.
