Is there a reason why Sreesanth should be picked again?

Sreesant is one of the good swing bowlers around atm. he is someone who can swing both the new and the old (reverse) ball with decent pace .... When he gets the swing going, he is deadly. When not, he can look ordinary He is one bowler that can take advantage of the old ball by reverse swinging. A side needs variety in bowling attack, and at the moment Sree appears to be a good fit in the bowling attack I think Ind should play 3 pacers more often as if the play 2 pacers and one of the pacers has an off day or two then it's lot of work for the other pacer and then we have to rely a lot on the spinners. We should play 2 spinners on a pitch that's expected to be a turner otherwise 3 pacers + 1 spinner and on a flat pitch may be 3 pacers + 2 spinners. A 2 pacers + 2 spinners attack, imo, is neither here nor there unless the pitch is an absolute turner

Too early to dismiss Sreesanth as such. He has been bowling fairly well. That he has gotten the new ball ahead of Ishant is in itself a reflection of his assessment by the team management. But as somebody said, he is not that good against left handers. And he has also seemed a little short on pace this series. Even then he is faster than Zaheer and Ishant. Ishant's drop in pace is something I fail to understand. Absolutely. Pace is not everything, yes, but still why should the Indian fast bowlers have such such drastic drops. Beats me. ________ Zoloft side effects

unfortunately we cant afford to go by ability alone.apart from Zak we have to pick bowlers onn form.Ishant is in much better form than Sree n with that injury e got,its almost certain he'll be replaced by Bhajji

Sreesanth has always been a hit-or-miss type of bowlers. When has ever consistently performed in a handful matches in a row? The thing is, if you drop him based on his 'miss' performances, you might potentially miss out on his 'hit' performances, which can come any time. You can debate over his effectiveness and numbers, but you cannot question his effort and commitment. Fact is, despite all the wave of (justifiable) support he gets from the general populace here, Sreesanth is yet to do justice to all the promise. And its more than 3 years now, since he has made his debut. I will definitely keep in the squad though.

He looked 'ordinary'
He was also unlucky a few times. He even had the confident little Mushfiqur in trouble with a sharp bouncer but did not have luck in his favour. Another day he could very well have closed the day with a couple of wickets if not more. But I will not deny that he operated below par for a major part of the match. To me though that is no grounds to sit him out in the next match - injury permitting. ________ Vaporizerinfo.Com

Well maybe the expectations are different. As a new ball bowler, I expect the guy to 1. Get top order wickets and 2. Show consistency and form. It's safe to say Sreesanth did neither in this test match just like for most of his career. Yes, undoubtedly he has moments where on the odd/rare occasion he'll quickly take 3/4 wickets because he'll get everything right. And he should be criticized for it. Should he be dropped if this continues? Absolutely.

If this fitful performance continues? Absolutely. Agreed. ________ HERBAL VAPORIZERS

Disagreed with Sreesanth's selection, here on ICF for the Sri Lanka Test, simply because he did not earn his place through domestic performances, he played in two or three games and failed to pick up many wickets. He was also poor for Warwickshire in FC cricket (he was quite handy in ODI cricket, got good movement and bowled a good pace), if we look at the figures. He was expensive (4-6 runs per over) and often failed where the other bowlers succeeded in taking wickets. He has the potential to produce a match-winning spell, but he can also bowl very poorly. He is still a raw bowler and he, more than anyone else, would benefit from working hard in domestic cricket, understanding his bowling, his action and msot improtantly, knowing what will get wickets for him on a consistent basis. The tools are all there, he has a slower ball, a good bouncer, reasonable speed, a perfect seam position, but just lacks the understanding that only experience can bring.

And I dont think our domestic cricket - considering the wickets we play on - is going to be a huge way to improve his game. ________ Thai property for sale

Cannot argue with county cricket. Certainly recommendable. It is just that I feel he is not doing too many things wrong here. In my opinion the biggest thing he needs to learn is to bowl more consistent spells to left handers. It is not a natural thing for any outswing bowler but that is the biggest lacuna I see in him. That and a tendency to experiment too much too soon. ________ condo rentals Pattaya

County cricket would be ideal. There are a fair few flat pitches in County Cricket, but you do get the odd helpful surface in the English circuit. I do not think that you can render domestic cricket worthless because of the pitches though, as you get many flat pitches on the subcontinent and Sree plays only at the Plate level, where he should be able to take wickets (or at least, more than he does), regardless of pitches.

I do not think these slow and sluggish surfaces suit him. Also his temperament is wavery. He tries too many things in too little time. By all accounts he is going to get the axe. But do not forget him completely. Still he showed in patches what a great outswing bowler he is.

Right now, he really only takes the ball away from left handers with seam and maybe some cut. IF he can develop a true inswinger nothing like that. That would complete him if he also adds some patience to his repertoire. In my mind he is far more patient now than before, but he still needs to improve in this direction. ________ Cheap Glass Pipes

His performace tells a different story. His rhythym was off. His run up was messed up as he bowled the most no balls. He couldn't get any consistent movement off the seam. He couldn't bowl on one length/line for two overs in a row to the same batsmen. He was taken off by his captain after just a few overs. In other words he didn't even do the basic requirement expected from even the most average/mediocre bowler. It's the main reason why Munaf Patel was picked ahead of him in the NZ series. The guy has shown little to no mental/physical growth in the past five years he's been on the scene. At this rate, he might be 50 years old before he learns how to bowl well two test matches in a row.

Hmm.. I watched most of the action and can tell you a different story. With a smidgen of luck you could easily have seen him pick up at least 2 if not 3 more wickets in this Test. Yes, about the no-ball issue, it was concerning. However it need not necessarily be a run-up issue. He might just have been trying too hard. I wont be surprised if it is that. He is not really a seam bowler. He is a swing bowler. And there was some movement early on for him on the first day. And even later on. Such as when he was angered into bowling a beautiful lifter at Raqibul after getting hit on the lip by a ball. To say that he has had no mental growth would be manifestly unfair in my opinion. He is no longer the Sreesanth of yore - always ready for some feisty action in the middle. And in many ways that is not right. He is not himself. I dont know how long he can hold onto himself for this. I do not agree with the press and many fans going ballistic at him for eyeballing opponent batsmen or engage in the occasional banter. After all is that not what we wanted our fast bowlers to do at one time when we had Srinath who would immediately turn back to his mark once he was done delivering the ball? I have never understood that aspect. Anyway, I am sure we can agree to disagree on this. ________ Peak Towers Condo
