We have shown we are No 1 in the world

Honestly marris - I dont know how this win earns 'RESPEKT' for the Indian team and an undisputed No.1 standing. It was the triumph of one of our batting gods as has often been the case. And definitely people will celebrate and respect our strength in batting. But our bowling, catching, fielding etc. leave a lot to be desired. Surely they are not No.1 material... I am not talking just about scope for improvement. There is always scope for improvement even after India becomes No.1 in all departments. Right now, if a team can see off Zaheer Khan somehow, then the rest looks like a piece of cake. We need to address that. Among other things.
Yes, If the opposition team can see off Zak with the new ball and the old ball, dismiss Sehwag early, get rid of Gambhir before he settles in, removes the all-star middle order of Sachin, Dravid and VVS and somehow negate the controlled spin bowling of Bhajji and his spin bowling partner, of course, our team is a piece of cake in the opposition. Duh! Dude, there are only so many pieces to a cricket team. You cannot single out someone and say ‘If he doesn’t perform, we’re screwed!’ It doesn’t work that way man. Plus, this aint T20/ODI cricket. We don’t have to be outstanding in the field, just reliable. And please, you should know better than to use a broad stroke to paint our bowling attack as ‘bad’ using a single brush, given the numerous wins they have led us, with lots of help from their batsmen friends I admit. It seems like th Indian bowling attack you see is not obviously the one that I see on the television.

Did you watch the Australia's second innings ? Just wondering :fear:...because Zak took out #8,9,10 ..and the team was all out for less than 200 Did you get a chance to watch recent SL's tour of INdia where Sreesanth was the destroyer ? You keep whining about India's bowling, and before every series, you have the same old "can't see them taking 20/40/60 wickets" ..and they end up taking all those wickets..

People forget we played and won regardless of : 1. Laxman operating at 50% 2. Ishant operating at 30% of his capacity (cost us 50 runs atleast in 1st innings, and added to the burden of other bowlers because he was out) 3. Gambhir seen off by the ump 4. Having to bat last on this wicket, Yes, we ARE showing INDIANISM... te ability to bounce back from dead and written off..

Ponting declared for score of 454/5 wickets in first innings of test match against Pakistan and still won the match in canter with so called bowling power house. I Think Indian bowling gets a bad wrap , they have won second most matches in the year so far playing the most difficult opponents and on flat tracks.England won 7 seven macthes but they played bangbros and a putrid Pakistan 4 matches each .

And one other thing - comprehensive wins more than close wins are what consolidate one team's domination over the other. I am definitely not denigrating this victory or selling India short. They did fantastically well. But they were always fighting the odds. Australia were the team who let go of the opportunity to go 1-0 up! India snatched it from between their teeth! :)
When Australia was the all conquering team, there were many times they would falter mid-way. Haek, they have done that against Bangladesh. But what made Aussies so deadly was someone always stood up during that time and snatched victory. That was the Aussie aura. They would be 5-6 down for almost nothing and then the tail would fight back. the opposition would score heavily and then they would produce some magic balls. Aussies were invincible not because they were never run close. They were run close multiple times. But always, in pressure situtaions, it was they who came on top and opposition who faltered. Thats why teams feared them. Rarely did they win by innings or many wickets/runs. But win they did. India's win over Aus in the last test in many ways show the same kind of determination a No. 1 team has

What a joke! And unlike other teams, we haven't had a chance to play WI in this period, and have played only 8/33 tests against "weaker" test nations of NZ Pak and Ban... SA has played 13/32 vs such nations, and Aus 15/37...

man this vortex dude is a joke. Don't know whats his problem.
I don’t think Vortex is any less of a cricket fan than any of us are. His passion for the game and our cricket team is self- evident from his posts. It is just that his world view as to what constitutes a world beating team is flawed. We should all be able to disagree without calling each other terrible names.

When was the Last time we fielded a 100% fit Team on the ground in all the games of a series? I cant remember, If we have all Fit players featuring in a match, the very next match they discover themselves in the medical ward. All the whining about we not being No-1 and not dominating should stop, because all the Past number 1 teams had a "Fit" team to play with, unlike us. Give them Injuries and you'll see the results. Australia, still dont have the Replacemnt of Hayden, Langer, Gilchrist, Warne, Martyn, Mcgrtah. When they had all this names, i wonder how the team would have fared with 2-3 of the names i mentioned out in every match. Would they had been as dominating as they were with their full team? Answer is no.
