Bandit Queen made in 1994 by Shekhar Kapur with music by the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - watched it for the first time today. The subject matter is not for the squeamish. The movie starts with this quote: "Animals, drums, illiterates, low castes, and women are worthy of being beaten" — the Manu Smriti, a book of Hindu religious scriptures. Yes, what a gut wrenching quote which really sets the tone for the movie. Well this movie got mixed reviews, got censored and some states even banned it. I was surprised to learn that Shekhar Kapoor did not meet Phoolan Devi...not even once to learn more about her. She did not agree with manyy elements of the movie and finally got a settlement of $60,000 from the film makers because they did not have her permission to make the movie. What was so objectionable you say? The rape scenes! Now there is a a judgment in India that no one can depict a living woman's rape without her consent. The real life story of Phoolan Devi is more chilling than the movie. Biographical movies are at the artistic liberties of screenplay writers and directors. While the authenticity of this movie might be questioned by many, I thought it was pretty realistic and well made. Will go down as one of the must see movies in my list.

Nic Cage can be a very good actor...he's quite versatile too. Has made some bad film choices of late though. I watched Clash of the Titans today.. didnt expect that much and was still dissapointed. Great effects, but very silly...

Up in the Air Clooney as usual rocked .. The single life was inspiring in the beginning but the end was made to look *****y as expected :phehehe:

Haan I beleives you now :(( ... I had already booked tickets for it by then though expecting it to be quite packed -being holiday weekend and all it was busy I think I would have seen it anyway mind :P you gotta judge these things for yerself... it was a fail though youre right...

My sisters keeper I found it quite disturbing. Who has a child for parts and then expect that child to live a normal life. They do show the mother was blinded to all this because she was so focused on helping the other daughter, but still.
