But Raanjhanaa tries to push that boundary and comes up with a love story that isn't completely conventional. There are more merits to the movie. It gives Bollywood one of the most adorable actors in a long long time. This has to be one of the most resourceful debuts for any actor in Bollywood since, without any preset image, Dhanush's charm and innocence works doubly as good. And just when you think Dhanush is all about cuteness, the actor impresses with an about turn to his character in the second half, where he matures in his part and performance. Also finally there is a director, a character and a film that explores the acting prowess of Sonam Kapoor in the right method and measure. Ever since childhood, Banaras boy Kundan (Dhanush) is hopelessly attracted to Zoya (Sonam Kapoor). While Zoya forgets her juvenile infatuation over the years, for Kundan the obsession translates into love. A post-graduate Zoya is now in love with the university youth leader (Abhay Deol) and wants to marry him. Evidently Kundan is heartbroken and while you fear the film might just end up as another love triangle, Raanjhanaa surprises while exploring uncommon facets and character conflicts for a love story. What catches your immediate attention in the film is Dhanush's immature yet endearing character from the schoolboy who is crazy over the neighbourhood girl to an adult who continues to be madly in love with her, despite the fact that she doesn't reciprocate the sentiment. What could have otherwise come across as a roadside romeo stalker, is amusingly just a harmless yet determined admirer here. Blessed with a refreshing screenplay and some hilarious dialogues by Himanshu Sharma, Raanjhanaa rises much above most love stories. What also adds uniqueness to the film is that the protagonist is not one of those conventional one-dimensional lovers often witnessed onscreen. While on one hand Kundan endorses Zoya's marriage to her lover, on the other hand he is not completely forgiving of her either. The gamut of mixed emotions that he goes through adds multiple layers to his character. The love story particularly gains individuality in the second half where the narrative chooses an offbeat path and ventures into politics where Zoya heads the campus party and Kundan seeks her forgiveness for his past misdoings. While the political setup initially appears somewhat off-track in the scheme of things, it subsequently serves only as a catalytic backdrop to the love story. There are some conveniences that the screenplay resorts to like Kundan's easy influx in the student activism. But you tend to overlook that as the core character conflicts primarily revolve around emotions of love. Beyond its distinctive writing, it is director Anand L Rai's vision that gives the film its soul. To start with, he chooses to go beyond the conformist romance and then he adds so much conviction in the story that you fall in love with Raanjhanaa. The milieu he creates, the music and montages that he skillfully employs, the performances that he extracts and the poignant end he opts for just makes Raanjhanaa a memorable love story. The innocence, energy and emotions that Dhanush brings to his character is exceptionally amazing. For a South star, his Hindi doesn't hurt at all. Sonam Kapoor is more than just a pretty face this time. She matures bigtime as an actor and puts in a confident and expressive act. From the supporting cast, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as Kundan's friend gets some of the best lines in the film and is brilliant in his part. Swara Bhaskara has a relatively short role but is superb in whatever screen time she gets. Abhay Deol does well in his extended special appearance. Thanks I will be seeing it saw it last evening, movie is nothing like the promo infact best moments of movie are already shown in promos; everyone including those in support roles have acted well, Dhaush is impressive but needs to work on his hindi bottomline i tried but in the end didnt like it.

They definitely are hard working people :dontknow: Both of them are known to take up challenging roles and perform fantastically well. For eg. Emmy in Murder 2, Shanghai, Once upon a time in Mumbaai and Vidya in Kahaani and The dirty picture. Whats gross in that :hmmm:
