The outlook for Indian bowling present and future is utterly depressing - trundlers and non-spinners galore. Anywhere you turn for a chink of light, you simply end up in a blind alley. Without decent bowlers you just cannot expect to win matches on a consistent basis.

It's true, the depth of our bowling attack and how things get worse even with one injury (Zak/SS) mean things look quite bleak at the moment...plus there is a history of promising Indian bowlers consigned to the scrapheap after looking like diamonds but falling away. Saying that the likes of Asif/Mowgli/Gul/Anderson/Hilfenhaus/Finn all bowled this summer in ideal overcast conditions whilst Mithun/Ishant have been given FTB heaven for the likes of Paranabanana to make them look even more average than they are All things considered though - Mithun's armoury does not suggest to me an awful lot of potential

By test match international standards he is abysmal. Not a bad IPL or county cricket bowler maybe. But as an international test match bowler he is ###### I gurantee one thing! The selectors will also realise he is pants. This will be his last match for india in tests!

It's funny how our fast bowling stocks have dwindled while the quality of pitches for domestic cricket has improved slightly. When we had absolute pattas for domestic matches, we got the likes of Zaheer, Irfan, RP, Munaf, Sree and Ishant . But now with there being some help for the bowlers, there is no one really who looks like being ready for international cricket!! The fading away of MRF pace academy in the last few years also seems to be a huge factor now, with NCA's plans of developing and nurturing pace bowlers looks non existent. COming back to Mithun, there is enough in him to workwith and convert him into a steady 82-83 mph swing bowler. But not sure if the system will let him develop any further.

Yea right, knock a guy down based on his performances on some of the most docile pitches and against some of the most prolific batsmen you could ever hope to see in your lifetime. The guy’s talent is clear, but he’s obviously raw and needs lot more honing. But what I don’t understand are his pedestrian speeds. He hardly ever crosses 135 kph, operates mostly in the 125 – 132 kph, so why the hell was he billed as this tearaway quick? :dontknow:

Pretty much every emerging Indian pacer will get that via the hype machine...people desperate for a messiah to come and blow batsmen's heads off. Can see the same thing happening with Yadav - he's a touch quicker but relatively, not exactly Usain Bolt

:--D They will. Don't worry. The easiest way to gain attention these days is to bowl fast and touch 90s regularly. Proof of this is Umesh's selection for the Zimbabwe series over seasoned campaigners like Sreesanth, Irfan, RP Singh and Munaf Patel.

Good post marirs. He may or may not be a good bowler, but lets not judge him by his performances on these dead tracks where most bowlers struggle. Thats unfair for any new bowler. He showed encouraging signs in the first test. We will get to know more in better conditions.

we have Umesh who can bowl at 145 kph CONSTANT for 6-7 overs....we have ABU NACHIM AHMED with a slingy action who can bowl at 142 kph for 4-5 overs and touch the 146 kph mark,Unadkat can touch 138kph,we have Netravalkar who is said to be india's answer to Vaas,he bowls at 80 miles only but with great control....I think it is time to field fresh blood,and I would like an allrounder in team....be it irfan pathan or someone else.....tamilnadu's Ganapathy Vignesh can open the batting and also open the bowling and can touch 136kph....I have seen him play great in ICL...no harm in trying them

Why do you keep saying this pitch is docile. This pitch is not docile at all. Its Mithun who has been docile.

That edge was ages ago yesterday. Put a quality pacer on this track and they would have caused damage. Not like mithun the trundler. And when ball was doing loads yesterday morning Ishant at least looked threatning, Mithun was awful

Actually Ishant was the one who was leaking runs. Mithun has always been able to maintain tight control. He may not be express. But then he need not be express. Lord said it well - he gets the job done!

Selectors need to think what kind of a bowler they are looking for. If they want a GENUINE PACER who can work up serious pace, there is no point in constantly drafting in guys who can barely touch 130. Its not fair to the Mithun's of this country and destroy's their strength, their craft, their bowling.
