Gauti and Dravid got two more test to get back to form . We need both against South Africa . We cant try Pujara and Vijay in South Africa .

I disagree. They couldn't do any worse than Dravid/Gambhir. They are completely out of sorts and hardly inspiring confidence on Indian placid pitches. Pujara and Vijay should be tried before RSA and who knows, Dravid's retirement could very well be hastened!

As if we never lost a series before involving RD or for that matter any other player.

Dravid,certainly,but Gauti has not reached a stage yet where hes indispensible.hes looking clueless.if he doesnt get a big score in next 2 tests,certainly there is case for Vijay's inclusion.hes been in great form of late as for Pujara,he can come in for Raina

I still have hope for Gauti. But sooner than later it is going to reach a point where people will stop analyzing about why he fails.. and start talking about why he still plays. Hope he doesn't get into such situation.

One more failure in the next test and those questions will be raised. He's in a way failed for 4 series, started vs SA, failed in the only tests he played vs SL and Aus and now this one. His one day form too has sufferred. More so because he has had too many injuries and perhaps rushed through his comeback. If he fails again, he should play some domestic cricket to ease himself into some form and from then on he will be fine. Too good a player to be written off.

I think his slump is almost entirely fitness related. As you say, he has probably rushed it a couple of times. As he himself mentioned the other day, it is difficult to get that confidence back when you keep missing games injured. His dismissals are being caused by tentativeness rather than any technical flaw, which is understandable. Hopefully he can get a run of games and I agree that a bit of time easing himself back in FC cricket is not a bad idea if things aren't working out in the Tests, but personally I think a big score will come - he just needs to actually get a proper start which is the most difficult thing when you are out of sorts.

The thing abt dropping him to First Class cricket is that - if Murali Vijay does quite alright when GG is playing domestics - then again they'll have to drop MV when MV is doing ok, and bring GG back in. That will be too much chopping and changing. Its a tough spot. I think they'll just give GG the complete NZ series and then evaluate after that.

Too many injury layoffs recently. Has looked tentative and unsure whole batting which is quite natural. But nothing to worry aout. One good knocks and he will be back doing what he does the best, piling on the runs.

Gambhir is a talented cricketer. Good that Sachin, Viru, Lachu are covering up for the lack of form from Gauti, Dhoni. Gauti did the same for others sometime back. He is our premiere batsman in all formats. Too early to discard him. Let us not get into the habit of chopping and changing. It affects confidence of Gambhir, new comer and rest of the players as well.

Every player has their ups and downs....In the last 5-6 years Gambhir and Dhoni were the only 2 players who looked like the real deal amidst a lot of posers like Ishant,RP and countless other bowlers,Rohit,YKP,Uthappa,Venu Rao etc....Still holding my judgement on Kohli and Raina. Give him some time as Gauti is a proven peformer at the highest level...Remember even God had a couple of rough patches in an illustrious career...So did Viru,Rahul,VVS,Jumbo and Dada but something about them always told them that they would bounce back stronger

That is the key plus winning heals all wounds in sports as has been the recent past with Indian cricket. Imagine India losing from 15/5 at Ahmedabad. Then people will not be as forgiving and GG would have been the first name in the list of casualties perhaps. Good that he has bought some more time and hopefully in Hyderabad he will turn the tide and everything will be forgotten.
