The Outsider Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Ojha is quite simply the worst spinner to play test cricket for India since for those who remember him, Gopal Sharma. Probably at par with Rajesh Chauhan. Left arm spinners are pretty useless as a species themselves in modern cricket, but Ojha takes it to a completely different level. A wrist spinner will have his bad days, but on his good days can pick up crucial wickets and actually put some pressure on the opposition. I would have thought it was a no brainer to select Mishra for this test after the pasting Ojha got in the first match. I am hoping this series will put him out of his misery for good and he will be relegated to history. But wouldn't count on it after seeing the insane love and faith the selectors and team management are showing in this wheelie bin.

If they really want to play left arm spinner, it has to be Murali Karthik.. Mishra would have been ideal for the game though..

Its more of a parochial stream and most of the people in India are in agreement with that. I would pick Murali Karthik over Ojha in any test line up. Thats like New Zealnd dropping Daniel Vettori for Chris Harris. If they really want to play left arm spinner, it has to be Murali Karthik.. It is so disappointing for Karthik, who has made a name for himself in the English County circuit, but just doesn't seem to make the cut, no matter what.

He has been performing well in county cricket for a number of years now and by most reasonable criteria would have been given a chance by now. However this is the Indian team we are talking about, where cliques and egos matter and if your face don't you can forget it. Case in point - Dhoni moves heaven and earth to get his mate Yuseless back in the test team when by all objective criteria he is mediocre at that level and has had more than enough chances. Kartik has been a wasted talent, sadly ignored by a corrupt selection system and by not having friends in the right places.

Seems to be a huge minnow basher leaving the likes of Orissa and Himachal in tatters and floundering against the stronger line ups. Here is a sample of his performances against strong and weak line ups over the last 3 years: Strong : 0/126 against Sri Lanka 8/238 against Sri Lanka BP XI 5/185 against Sri Lanka 4/73 against Sri Lanka 2/126 against Gujarat 0/38 against Mumbai 3/99 against Australia 2/102 against East Zone 1/98 against North Zone 4/195 against Uttar Pradesh 3/139 against Baroda 4/138 against Punjab 4/151 against Bengal 2/114 against Mumbai Overall : 42/1822 runs @ 43.4 Weak : 4/126 against Bangladesh 8/135 against Himachal Pradesh 2/49 against Orissa 3/56 against Andhra Pradesh 6/86 against Orissa Overall : 23/452 @ 19.7 Says it all, really. Please get rid of his pronto!

I would have played Mishra because he would have definitely got more bounce on a Day 1 track than Ojha.The Left Handers like Sanga, Parnavithana will find playing Ojha a little easier with the angle.The selectors should have gone for Mishra and at least tried a change rather than banking on the same old stupid tactics

But he needs some stellar performances to back his candidature.

gaurav92 Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Well i really want to know what has Mishra done to be not a part of Playing XI and similarly what has Ojha done to be a part of Playing XI again even after failing in the first test.Mishra would have definitely got more bounce than the rest and surely would have done better than the rest.Still i think the same side will be played in the third test :mad:
