Ponting gives up chasing Baasu in ODI's RICKY Ponting is likely to quit one-day cricket after the World Cup. The move will allow Ponting to extend his Test career long enough for one last revenge mission against England in England. Ponting has admitted the coming Ashes series will lack the burning personal intensity he will carry to England in 2013. Ponting has never lost to the old enemy in Australia, but his last two journeys to England have ended in defeat. "Every game I play there's always something personal I want to gain out of it," Ponting said. "But I think there would be more personal issues for me if I actually got back to England and got another crack at it over there. "It's a different situation in Australia. Ponting's losses in the 2005 and 2009 series in England came either side of a 5-0 triumph in Australia. Ponting retired from Twenty20 internationals to keep himself fresh for Tests and one-dayers. Next year's World Cup on the subcontinent offers him the chance to become the first player to win four in a row, and the first captain to claim three on the trot. But once the most prestigious 50-over tournament has come and gone, there will be little point in him continuing. He won't be around for the 2015 tournament, so Australia can start their next four-year cycle without him. "We'll get through these next six or seven months, hopefully the team has its fair share of success and well re-evaluate from there," Ponting said. Former England captain Mike Atherton has started the traditional pre-Ashes slanging match. Atherton has pointed to Ponting, Simon Katich and Mike Hussey all being 35 as a potential advantage for England. "Age doesn't come into it," Ponting said. "Probably the inconsistency is our biggest concern in the middle-order batting, for the past 12-to-18 months, to tell you the truth. "You look at the age thing, look at Sachin Tendulkar. He's the ICC player of the year at 37. Even if he does not retire for good after the WC, I can't see SRT continue in ODIs after the WC.

Yep, I too personally don't see Sachin playing ODIs beyond the World Cup. Even he wont be around for the 2015 one and just like he decided against the T20s he will stop playing the ODIs, probably the 2011-12 Aussie tour will also be his swansong in Tests. He would have done SA, Eng, WI tours also before that.

^screw you then...He is playing as well as he has ever played. Leave the age factor behind and just forget his real age for once. Assume that he is only 22 years old. Now tell me if you still want him to quit any formats of the game. The guy is fit and well trained so why should the age matter? He has played 22 odd years so far and he looks good for another 5 years or so as of now. The man has just scored 200* in ODIs and you want him to retire. During the post match presentation of that 200* game, he clearly stated that no one should ever bring up the age issue again! Then again he comes up with a mind boggling 200 odd in a Test game and people still want him to retire form this and that...get real people

He has already achieved everything he needed to in ODI cricket, except maybe 50 ODI centuries. Once he gets that, I don't want to see him hang around in the ODI format. No point in risking injuries playing it, rather let him conserve all his energy and apply it in Test cricket. That's the format that matters the most, much more than ODI cricket.

There was never a chase , that odi records would never be broken having said that Sachin would gladly exchange some of those records for one of three world cups which Ponting has won.
