New zealand's biggest weakness for decades have been genuine quicks. Doesn't need to be a quality one. Just raw pace. They have time and again been dismantled by raw pacemen. Pretty much all teams have steamrolled them with raw pace time and again. Most of the genuine quicks had their best figures against NZ. They negotiate everything else decently. India is exactly missing that one element. This is one of the reason why India keep struggling to win matches against NZ.

We are 234 ahead with 48 overs in the day and our captain still won't declare and try to win, what does that tell you about his level of belief in his bowlers? Lol, this is the 8th ranked team in the world we are playing here.

Stalemate between India and NZ I think Indian pitches are very similar to those NZ pitches where pitches can be pretty flat and you can bat all day. Most of the time NZ batsmen are losing it when there is express pace like Lee, Steyn, Johnson, Actor, Malinga. They were able to negotiate pretty much everything (with an exception of Murali and Warnie). India has none of them. And NZ doesn't have bowlers to bowl us out twice. So there is a stalemate. Neither of us have been able to bowl each other out. We continue churning out draws against NZ. India must take an aggressive step. They must try to go in with an extra bowler. Preferably someone quick. I say Umesh Yadav. Let him bowl as fast as possible not worrying about line and length. This is the only way we can break this trend.

This thread would not have existed, had Rahul Dravid pouched Ryder when he was on 15. We should not over-react to one particular performance. Going in with 6 batsmen + Keeper + 2 spinners + 2 pacers is still the best option in Indian conditions. That is what has earned us so many wins in the recent past, there's no reason to change it on the back of one performance. And this whole thing about NZ succumbing to quick pacemen - could well be the case, provided you have quicks who are actually good. Picking someone as raw as Umesh Yadav, who's clearly not in any sort of readiness to play test cricket, is frankly a short-sighted move that can backfire horribly.

Disagree. Still think we’re capable of winning this 2-0, if not at least 1-0. We’re not on a win-every-match-else-die, kamikaze mission. Sometimes, you have to concede the opposition played well and move on. We will definitely bounce back in the coming tests. But picking an extra bowler just for the sake of it is not the way to go.

You guys are missing the point. NZ has managed 6 draws against India in India out of the last 7 tests. It is not one off thing. Even in NZ India rarely manages a win. After a long drought we pulled off one win recently. Every other team has simply murdered NZ sometime or the other due to reasons i mentioned above.

The 1-0 scoreline is not a reflection of our intent or effort, it’s a reflection of the conditions. We’re talking about some of the FLATTEST pitches in the world. Consider this, in the last 3 tests in India, the teams have crossed the 400 run mark in their first innings 6 out of 6 times. In scenarios like that, its very hard to eek out a result. In conditions like that, the only possible way a result is probable is if one of the team collapses in the 2nd innings, like Australia did in Mohali or we did in 1st test.
