Can't believe his run of luck with tosses. I thought India did decently well to get through the first 10 overs or so without too much damage. Steyn did not bowl too well initially, but Morkel got the rewards for a good spell with the quick wickets of Gambhir and Dravid. The Laxman-Tendulkar partnership was obviously the key with the ball getting a bit softer, but what an amazing spell of bowling from Steyn after tea. It is this kind of a match turning spell India will miss in the absence of Zaheer. The Harbhajan run out was terrible luck and so was Sreesanth driving straight to the only man in front of the wickets. This match might turn out to be a low scoring scrap where every 10-15 run contribution is vital and if Harbhajan had not been dismissed in that fashion 175-200 was achievable. 225-250 was probably the par score here, but India are certainly not in a situation which cannot be redeemed. South Africa have to bat last, the pitch is still damp, there is good grass cover. In addition to Sreesanth, Harbhajan can be quite a proposition on this track. It is similar to the 2006 Sabina Park wicket and the damp surface can really bring him into the match. PS : Wrist slitters and trolls, stay the phuck out of this thread. Gunner_Mania Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Irrespective of what Dhoni manages to get tomorrow with Unadkat for the last wicket, tomorrow will be a test of our bowlers as much as today was a test of our batsmen. Our batsmen have more often then not piled up mammoth scores while playing at home and helped the bowlers to put the opposition under pressure and get 20 wickets. Tomorrow will be a day when the bowlers will need to come to the party. If the pitch stay as it was today and our bowlers stick to their line and lenghts I dont see why we cant trouble the SA batsmen. If we don't let them get a lead of more than 50-70, there still might be a way back into this match. If Unadkat can produce a spell similar to the one he produced on his first class debut in helpful conditions for India A against the West Indies A at Leicester earlier this year.......
coffee_rules Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I don't think luck had any part in Harbhajan's dismissal. He was hurried by unexpected act of Boucher. He didn't expect Boucher to throw it from under his legs and dropped the bat in a hurry. Tnedulkar and Laxman got good deliveries, but were they set up to play such shots on this pitch. Same with Dravid, they have to play front foot and not get stuck in the crease. Sorry to say, :punter: would have scored more on this pitch. He is more equipped. Only chance is for India to bowl out SA under 250. Else it will be play catch-up for India. With the pitch easing up and no rain rest of the match, India will have to chase more than 150 on I2, it will be disaster. Hoping for some magic from Sree on D2.

Totally agree, Saffers still need to bat on this track, and though it will be easier to bat on, there will still be something there for our bowlers. I think we will restrict Saffer to a modest 2st innings lead and bat well in the second innings, Bhajji will be the key man I reckon on this pitch in the Saffer 2nd innings. An Indian win is still possible, and these boys will still have the belief that we can come back and win this test.
fineleg Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 The Indian bowlers will have to get South Africa all out for 200. In these conditions, this is the minimum expected from the Indian bowlers. Will they do that? Like Uncle Lal quips, Time will tell. As for Day-1, Sehwag played a rash shot too early, and Laxy's dismissal was very familiar. I was hoping Dravid and Tendulkar will do well - since these two have the technique to cope up, but a 70+ did not come from either. Great display from Steyn and Morkel They have justified their tag as the best opening bowling combo of current times. AWSUM! I am very worried about Raina and Gambhir. This is the FIRST real test for both in such kind of pacy conditions against a good attack. And they showed how faaar they are from being able to adapt technically. Raina can survive as a pure ODI batsman and may make a great career out of it, but it imperative that Gauti can put his hand up as a Test opener for all conditions.
