rkt.india Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Steyn is a magician with outswingers. I dont see a bowler who could bowl better outswingers than him. Even Shane warne would be proud off his outswingers which go like Warne's leg breaks.
zakirdukebar27 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Dale steyn is for me the best fastbowler in the world, he has pace agression swing, There's not toO many gud fasr bowlers around nowadays, amir was good. Slow bowlers seem to be doing the damage.
Old guy Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Dale steyn is for me the best fastbowler in the world, he has pace agression swing, There's not toO many gud fasr bowlers around nowadays, amir was good. Slow bowlers seem to be doing the damage. what about philander, morkel, anderson, siddle, pattinson, starc? there are plenty of good bowlers steyn is best amir was overrated had 1 good series or season and u people make him sound like he was atg
Clarke Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Mcgrath is uncomparable as a fast bowler across all formats. In test cricket it's neck and neck' date= Steyn clearly more dominant while Mcgrath was more consistent. Glenn Mcgrath was the greatest big match player in the history of cricket. :agree: Me thinks so as well. He may not belong to the 'fast' category but if there's one bowler I'd pick first, it had to be him.
CG Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Steyn hasnt played in SL for a while.was a much poorer bowler in 2006 when he did. other than that,he only struggled in 2 Tests in UAE. McGrath was better, but not that much.anyway McGrath would me one of the first names for me in ATG list Steyn though is defenitely better than Akram :hysterical::hysterical: Are u kidding me? Wasim akram was a notch about almost all pacers .He was a complete fast bowler who mastered both swings and even though he played most cricket subcontinent managed to average 23.
CG Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 in view of flatter pitches today' date='I think he's up there with most of the names[/quote'] Steyn plays in sa mostly where the pitches are best for fast bowling. On dead tracks like in dubai he was not effective. Also the teams batting standard world over has dipped with some ordinary test teams.
Malcolm Merlyn Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Steyn is rightly among the best now.But his career isnt finished. If he maintains this for another 3-4 years he will rightly be called an ATG.
Precambrian Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 :hysterical::hysterical: Are u kidding me? Wasim akram was a notch about almost all pacers .He was a complete fast bowler who mastered both swings and even though he played most cricket subcontinent managed to average 23. he played most of his cricket in Pakistan, which has and continues to produce excellent fast bowlers and have always supported them as well. Dale steyn averages 21.33 (57 wickets from 11 matches) in the subcontinent as well.
Precambrian Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Steyn plays in sa mostly where the pitches are best for fast bowling. On dead tracks like in dubai he was not effective. Also the teams batting standard world over has dipped with some ordinary test teams. What about his average in India then? (26 wickets from 5 matches @ 20 - That too against India at their batting prime) Better than what Wasim managed in his career (27 wickets from 8 matches @ 27.2)
CG Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 What about his average in India then? (26 wickets from 5 matches @ 20 - That too against India at their batting prime) Better than what Wasim managed in his career (27 wickets from 8 matches @ 27.2) The pitches he got in ahmedabad was a greentop by indian standards. The point is steyn does not play day in day out on flat tracks .Also only laxman was in so called prime.
Lord Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 :hysterical::hysterical: Are u kidding me? Wasim akram was a notch about almost all pacers .He was a complete fast bowler who mastered both swings and even though he played most cricket subcontinent managed to average 23. lol SC pitches arent everything.Akram was just okay in England,India,SA.Steyn much better
bones Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 In terms of all time, he really is right up there. I don't buy the rubbish arguement that he bowls on helpful surfaces, because most wickets these days are very lifeless and it's the inability of batsman that makes them look greater. The standard of cricket is so shocking right now, that it means we have just 1 great fast bowler in world cricket and lots of average ones whoch are made out to be greats (Anderson, Zaheer and Gul). As mentioned alreadym McGrath any day over this guy but not many others. Steyn gets late late swing and at decent pace, against I don't buy the rubbish that he's an express bowler when I've never seen a 95mph ball from him and he's generally 87/88mph.
Lord Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 The pitches he got in ahmedabad was a greentop by indian standards. The point is steyn does not play day in day out on flat tracks .Also only laxman was in so called prime. What about Nagpur?arguable the best fast bowling spell in India

daryl1985 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Mcgrath is uncomparable as a fast bowler across all formats. Certainly the best bowler since the mid 90's. Can't compare him with Marshall as i never saw him play.

Greentop on which SA batsmen managed nearly 500 runs in reply? Lol - how about Nagpur in 2010 then? How about his 4/100 on the mother of all flat pitches in 2008 Chennai (Sehwag hit a triple then)?
CG Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 lol SC pitches arent everything.Akram was just okay in England' date='India,SA.Steyn much better[/quote'] :cantstop: Akram averages 28 in 14 matches in england and 27 in India In 8 matches these are good numbers if you look at no of matches played.Steyn has struggled in england so far and he has played few matches in india.
CG Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Greentop on which SA batsmen managed nearly 500 runs in reply? Lol - how about Nagpur in 2010 then? How about his 4/100 on the mother of all flat pitches in 2008 Chennai (Sehwag hit a triple then)? I said by indian standards. Also Opp score 500 against us away on helpful tracks so i do not see whats the fuss.He used reverse swing well at nagpur and chennai same he was hammered and took some tailenders. Steyn is a great bowler but i would always rate wasim as the better out of these two.
Lord Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 :cantstop: Akram averages 28 in 14 matches in england and 27 in India In 8 matches these are good numbers if you look at no of matches played.Steyn has struggled in england so far and he has played few matches in india. overall Steyn has better average and better SR. more importantly he steps up on big occasions wheras Akram feasted on tailenders.even Pakis consider Waqar n Imran better than Wasim
CG Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 overall Steyn has better average and better SR. more importantly he steps up on big occasions wheras Akram feasted on tailenders.even Pakis consider Waqar n Imran better than Wasim Thats untrue wasim akram was the reason they won the wc,Also pakistan had a good test record.Steyn will average more than akram by the time he is finshed.Be it lara, dravid, ponting all regard akram as the best along with ambrose.
