The hyperbolic bit was his supposed reincarnation as a batsman after one century against a sh!t side and the IPL auction. Disagree. Its pretty obvious that the Indian team think-tank considers the South African series as a mere warm-up to get into ODI mode, rather than an opportunity to fine tune their strategy and team composition. Why else would have they have dropped Yusuf from the team, right after he played one of the more impressive ODI innings of 2010? They know what he offers, his strengths and weaknesses. They understand his vulnerability in bouncy pitches abroad, just the way the recognize his ability to be a game-changer at home. They’ve probably decided that there’s no use in exposing him to the south African quicks in these fast pitches and risk having him lose his confidence if he fails. If you think that the spots in the Indian ODI team is still up for grabs, then that is totally wrong. Coming to the 2nd part of your post, what is hyperbolic about stating how the team would have been encouraged from the way Yusuf approached his innings against New Zealand, in shart contrast to his otherwise rustic ways? And why is it so inappropriate to say that Yusuf himself would have drawn a lot of confidence from the fact that the public opinion still considers him to be a formidable batting force in Indian conditions? I’d like to think those are default inferences you can make.
The Outsider Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I don't see how one innings, against a side which has lost 10 games on the trot, can bring someone who was not even a part of our second string teams to first choice in the first choice team. I think they will play Yusuf on the slower pitches at Port Elizabeth, Centurion, and Cape Town and decide on that basis.

I'd bat him at 4 (Gauti at 3), its a huge change up for Yuvi (if he plays), but Kohli has been our best bat and he's been batting at 3 most of the time, we don't know how he'd fare in other positions as he hasn't really played elsewhere much

This would be my batting order: SRT, Sehwag, Kohli, Yuvraj, Gauti, Raina, Dhoni SRT/Sehwag - DUH Kohli - Also DUH Yuvraj - needs to bat higher or else he will be depressed Gauti - needs to open, but can't so might as well come here Raina - needs to ideally come higher, but for some reason has already been pushed down Dhoni - same as Raina

Why can't we move Sehwag in middle overs when spinners will be bowling and use him in power play 3? Sachin/Gauti Virat Kohli Yuvraj Sehwag Dhoni Raina So one of top 3 can anchor the innings and dashers play around him
cowboysfan Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 we have 3 fast bowlers who are fairly useless in the sub continent and bhajji who can be decent but gets whacked nowadays too.now you guys think its a good idea to go in with just 4 bowlers?.That is one recipe for disaster.

diegovegaz Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 yusuf (if he plays) and raina, both will play the finisher's role, and are susceptible against short pitch stuff its a swap between kohli or yusuf at 7 if the opposition is a minnow, or a subcontinental team, yusuf should be preferred else kohli

Silva Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Pathan should only come in to replace Raina or maybe Yuvraj. With Yuvraj batting at 4 our batting line up would look Fragile. Two quick wickets and Yuvraj coming in during the first 15 overs and the team would be in huge trouble. Kohli and Gambhir batting at 3 and 4 would bring a lot of stability to the line up and give Yuvraj, Dhoni, and Raina a solid platform consistantly throughout the tournament. Pathans bowling just isn't good enough for him to be selected as an all rounder. and If it was he would be in ahead of Raina or Yuvraj but not in place of Kohli or Gambhir.

Patel No need to play Raina, He has scored one 50 in his last 17 matches, Yuvi is only one who can be dropped instead of raina on batting form, but he is handy bowler in ODI and u can't trust pathan alone
