eraoforton Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Ensure senior trio do not retire together: Ganguly to selectors Kolkata,January 15,2011 Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly on Saturday advised national selectors to take a lesson from the present predicament of the Australian team and ensure that the three senior pros in the Indian team retired in phases and not at one go. Expressing confidence that batting greats Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman would continue in top flight cricket as long as they were in fine touch, India's most successful captain said: "There is no age for retirement. It's about performance." Ganguly retired form international cricket in November 2008 after the home series in Australia, and till today many of his admirers believe that the Kolkata boy was forced out of international cricket by a section of the Indian cricket board wrongly arguing that he was over the hill. The Ganguly fans were in for another rude shock last week when none of the 10 Indian Premier League franchises bid for him during the auction for the fourth edition of the cash-rich league. Making his first cricketing comment after the auction disappointment, Ganguly referred to the good showing of Tendulkar and Laxman in recent matches and hoped Dravid would also be among the runs soon. "Two of the three have done really, really well. And I expect the third one to do well very shortly... As he is too great a player." "I don't see them retiring very soon as long as they are in form," he said during an interaction with students at the Indian Statistical Institute here. Reminding the selectors how Australian cricket has suffered after the exit of several big names at the same time, he said: "The selectors have to remember one thing... that they should ensure they (the three Indian greats) do not all go together. Because then there will be lot of void. "Look at the Australians - in one series, (Justin) Langer, (Shane) Warne and (Glenn) McGrath retired. That created too much of a void. It's something we all know but, it's always good when someone who had established himself in Int'l cricket for over a decade speaks things like this. Hats oFF Gangster.

He is also known for his unrivaled athleticism, speed and fielding skills. He was the most successful captain of a team called India ( if you've heard of em). The moniker dada was in deference to his being a bully on the field, especially against bowlers from non test playing sides. Sorry, this is all I know without help from mr. wiki. Hope it helped.

Hats oFF Gangster. +++ I still consider Dada to be a lot better captain than MSD .. Dada built the team and made a losing team a winning team whereas Dhoni has been just enjoying the joyride and is declining continuously as a captain and has grown into a captain fully dependent on team .. Dada built the team whereas the team built Dhoni and he turns crap as soon as the team even fumbles a bit.. Dada lead from the front and I still consider him a lot better captain than Dhoni though Dhoni is a lot more hyped

Dhoni isn't that bad of a Captian either, If Dhoni wins the World Cup for us will that make him a better captain than Dada? But, some excellent points made by Dada, I don't want any 3 of our legends to retire now or else we will be the new Australia, the new punching bag in cricket oh wait there's still Bangladesh :giggle:

One of the best knocks in Odi cricket.. He scored that because Murali and the whole Sri Lankan team was against Ranatunga at that Time and wanted him Out of the team anyway. Hence they underperformed to get Rid of Ranatunga. And thus an Over Rated and Lucky Cricketer Dada benefitted to boost his stats.
