If somebody is expecting no.6 and no.7 batsman like Raina and YP to average 40+ at their respective positions then either they are fooling themselves or do not know properly about cricket. Especially when neither Raina nor YP has ever been promoted up the order to an opener' date= no.2 and no.3 even when half the team is injured. They hardly get benefit of PP overs, they have to play under pressure always as a lot of wickets fall till they arrive and the team is mostly under critical situations and to add to that they do not even get to bat in a lot of their matches or only get to bat a few balls. So, how do you expect them to perform anything comparable to Gauti, Veeru, Kohli or for that matter even UV or Dhoni. Give them a break. They are always kept down the order irrespective of circumstances and injuries to other players and newbies are given better positions than them and most of Raina's critics still want him to average 40+ and that sounds ridiculous. I am a great fan of Veeru but to be frank if Raina or YP would have been given opening positions then maybe they could have also hit centuries and blast the opposition like Veeru or maybe even do better than him. Many of the fans here need to understand that a fixed no.6 or no.7 cannot hit 100s or 50s that easily as compared to a top order or even a middle order batsman as they hardly get opportunities or benefits available to top order batsman. It would be unfair to say Raina must be dropped as he has been the best ODI no.6 in the world. Either UV or Raina will be dropped but that is because there is scarcity of batting positions and not due to talent. UV in in a lot worse form compared to Raina but he might get benefit due to his bowling but I still think Raina would be able to handle in Indian pitches better than UV in their current forms. I would have demoted MSD to no.7 and told him to start practicing his helicopter shots once again so that he can become a finisher again. I would promote both Raina and YP at least one step up in the batting order as MSD has not done anything to deserve a better batting position than the two of them.Link After having seen his performance at no 6 in the last 2-3 years I cannot under any circumstances drop Raina - he has been, along with Gambhir and Kohli, our most consistent batsman so he deserves a spot in the World Cup team. Its Yuvi as 4 and Raina at 5/6 If its boils down between these two for a spot, I would want Yuvraj. He is the biggest impact player in ODIs and most critical to our WC chances. If Kohli has to play, he has to replace Gambhir. Gambhir < Raina? I know that Raina is good in India, but I find it absurd that Suresh Raina, after the SA series, deserves his place in the team ahead of Yuvraj, Yusuf and certainly not ahead of Gambhir.

According to your post, Raina is obligated to keep his place while Kohli, the #2 batsman in the world, fights with Gambhir for a spot. Simply put, Raina will be picked regardless of what these 2 do and despite Kohli playing his heart out and scoring runs at will, he should make way for Gambhir. Why? On what basis does Raina have to retain a slot? And why can't- Gambhir play at 3, Kohli at 4, Yuvraj at 5, Dhoni at 6, Yusuf at 7.

Gambhir is the punjabi, so is Kohli, even sehwag is the jatt. if you watch the hindi movie, nearly all the new song is punjabi. So do not think just because someone don't want yuvi in the team that he is the anti punjabi. I from Gujurat and I respect the Punjabis.

And without jucking his stats against minnow teams. And people want to get rid of him and keep Raina who is also out of form with the bat? I don't see any logic in that at all. Yuvraj has to play because of his bowling. Dhoni has to play because of his keeping Raina is out of form and doesnt offer the team much else He is the one that has to go.

Raina is also a great finisher. Both field well. Bowl a bit. Gauti as an opener is very effective. At no.3 he is equal to Kohli or even less than him on current form of Kohli. So Gauti could be affected. Sachin Viru Kohli/Gauti Yuvraj Raina Dhoni Yusuf Bhajji Praveen Zaheer Munaf this could be the starting line up. Both Kohli and Gauti are capable of playing the role of anchoring. Both of them can attack when required. So only one of them might play. On form i would say Kohli. Not that Gauti is poorer than Yuvraj or Raina. But look at this Gauti at 3
