I don't know what 'namma namma" means but that seems to be a lucky slogan. May be because it was associated with CSK and it went on to not only win the IPL but also the CL :--D So would "namma namma Ind" work :icflove:
dude, you will be banned immediately, that is just blasphemy.

After watching the first warm-up against Aus, I think India should go with 2 fast bowlers (Zaheer if he regains fitness + Sreesanth) and 2 specialist spinners (Chawla + Harbhajan) with part-timers (Yuvraj, Pathan, Raina, Sehwag) chipping in. Hope India gets to play on spin-friendly/turning tracks as that's the key to India's success in this tourney.

The choice seems to come down to between him and Tendulkar. Only one of the two can play. Who do you pick?
After taking into consideration all factors I have decided to drop.................you - from ICF :winky:

Let's look at the venues, Ind is playing at 1. BD (likely to be a flat pitch) 2. B'lore 2 games (spin/pace friendly) 3. Delhi (flat or spin friendly) 4. Nagpur (flat) 5. Chennai (flat or spin friendly) and then 6. A'bad (flat) 7. Mohali (flat or pace) 8. Mumbai (flat or ?) On pitches that could possibly turn, we are either playing the minnows or Eng and WI. The pitches for the big games are likely to be either flat or helping seamers somewhat.

Guys..I need your views. IMO Kohli should try bowling his medium pacers. The team's senior bowlers and coach should help him to get few crucial tricks up his sleeves. He has a good temperament and would be a great 3rd medium pace option, if we are forced to play 2 spinners. He used to bowl during his U19WC campaign and bowls in IPL too.
I dont know, maybe in time but seeing that we have decentish part timers in Yuvraj and potentially Sehwag and Sachin even if needs be, why burden the lad. He is a very much just a slow medium bowler and certainly seems to be nowhere near the Sachin league in terms of his variety.

With regards to Chawla, yes the pitch supported his bowling. BUT. A Leggie is always useful, particularly considering there are a few offies and Yuvs SLA in the side. Piyush always had an ace googly up his sleeve but today was bowling good legbreaks to go with it... definitely a good sign. Im not sure with only playing 2 pacers, whether it is a good idea. But Piyush has made a strong claim for sure.

Bhjii can bowl a few overs but you need a third seaming option when the ball is still new. Atleast till 15th over (first drinks break), after that spinners and slow bowlers can take over. I was hoping for Kohli to give us an option of a medium pace bowling between 8th to 15th over.

This is a tough one always. The correct combination ofc is neither 7 + 4, nor 6 + 5, rather 6 + 1 + 4. Since we only have 1 player who can be considered an all rounder, seems like he is a must now. The only problem is that the two guys with whom he is fighting for a spot, Kohli and Raina are both definitely better bats than Yousuf altho Raina has been faltering a lot of late. Also, both Raina and Kohli need to come up the order, and since both can't be accommodated there, we probably have to drop one of them. So my lineup is: SRT/Sehwag/GG/Yuvi/Kohli(Raina)/YP/Dhoni/Sree/Zak/Harby/Chawla(Nehra,Munaf,Ashwin)

To arrive at the best option, I would employ a rotation policy for the first 4 games to do the following: 1. Start out w/ Yuvi against BD and Eng. 2. Bring Raina in against Ire and NL. He would replace the batsman who needs to be rotated or rested before the big games. 3. Play both Ashwin and Chawla against Ire and NL. 4. See how Tendulkar, Sehwag, GG, Kohli, YP and Dhoni are doing. 5. See how the other bowlers are doing. After seeing that^, I would finalize my combination, along w/ the top 12, for the rest of the tournament (possible 5 games), starting with the game against SA. I guess, if we start peaking around the game against SA, then that will take us all the way! :winky:

I totally concur with Rett's view on option 1. Indian pitches are more spin oriented and even our part time bowlers Yusuf Pathan, Yuvraj, Sehwag,Raina(??) can be quite useful as the fifth bowler. or back up for a fouth specialist (having a bad day) bowler. SInce our middle order looks out of touch for the moment, its better to go with an extra batmsan, rather than an extra bowler. We also have the added luxury of a No. 8 non-specialist destructive batsman in Harbhajan.

If the pitch is slow, I'd prefer to play all three spinners Bhajji,Ashwin and Chawla with two pacers in Zak and Munna/Sree. Since all three spinners are no mug with the bat, we can get away with playing 6 batsmen. Ashwin has experience in bowling in power-plays in IPL, so he could be used as first change. If pitch assists seamers more than spinners then we can fall back on three seamers and Bhajji or Chawla or both depending on the situation.

I didn't watch the 2nd half. Chawla was a fluke' date=' a one-off or do u guys see potential?[/quote'] Partly pitch, partly pathetic technique of Aussies. He is still the same chawla. He is not a terrible bowler. But he hasn't reached a stage where opposition would start playing him out before attacking others. On the other hand i see potential in Ashwin as he has been doing very well over the last few matches. He does well inside power play too.

^I thought he bowled very well. His line and length were right on the money. Even if the pitch offers help, you do need to get your deliveries right. OTH, I thought Ashwin was ordinary this game.

Sunny feels India will go with 2 seamers and Sachin may bowl seam up I think the camp would be worried, seamers will just get smashed, but if that happens we'll be forced to bowl spin really early - worries

If it's a batting pitch, then runs would be hard to stop for bowlers of both the teams. It would depend upon how many wkts you are going to take. Sometimes, we compare the seamers, who mainly bowl during PP and at death, with spinners who would mainly bowl during the middle overs. A better way to look at this would be how the spinners would fare if they bowl in similar circumstances as the seamers.
