Feed Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 More.. Sreesanth’s spell reflected his mindset Javagal Srinath The match against Bangladesh was a good workout for India. All the departments clicked and if there is one area that needs tightening, it’s the fielding. The area of focus will be the bowling and I must say it stood up to the challenge. Everyone has had a go at Sreesanth for being expensive. He did go for plenty but we need to look at the reasons for his less-than-impressive performance. First, we must understand his frame of mind. When the World Cup 15 was announced last month, Sreesanth wasn’t a part of the team. He was a late inclusion and it looked that he couldn’t prepare well. Between the severe sense of rejection and sudden acceptance, his preparation went for a toss. I gather he was also not an original choice in the playing eleven. With the swing and pace he was trying to generate, it looked as if he wanted a wicket off every delivery. We should not read too much into his performance on Saturday. There has been talk of Virender Sehwag's belligerence, but I would like to make a mention of young Virat Kohli. In the last year, he has become India's most consistent ODI batsman. Kohli didn't hide behind Sehwag's aggression. Instead, he also took the fight to the bowlers. There was healthy competition between the two during their double-hundred partnership with both batsmen playing their strokes freely. In a way, that eased the pressure on Sehwag because he didn't feel that he needed to go for the big strokes all the time. That’s how it should be. The impact factor in India's batting is always there from No. 1 to No. 7. I don't expect a top order collapse to undermine the team because the middle order is strong and the top order has enough quality to rule out a middle order collapse. With Kohli, Dhoni, Yuvraj and Pathan, this is probably the strongest middle order India have ever had. Unlike in Test cricket, it's the batsmen and not bowlers who win ODIs. Given this line-up, it is essential that the batsmen give the bowlers those few extra runs so that they can do the job. I believe this has to be the theme for this World Cup.
Dinx - the Jinx Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 so is he hinting that sreesanth should be [picked for next game? no please
shrapnel Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I agree with Feed. Dhoni seems to be more interested in orthodox good behavior than winning the WC. Poor Sreesanth has had no support right from the beginning from Dhoni and his cronies. Then he was publicly rebuked by Dhoni, which only made matters worse. A bowler like Sreesanth( India's only penetrative, wiicket-taking bowler) should be nurtured carefully with a mixture of criticism and praise, which a blunt Dhoni is incapable of. I still remember what Imran Khan said to Wasim Akram in the 1992 WC....... not to worry about the runs given, but to go out and take wickets....the rest is History !!

Okay so this is the reason eh? :woot: And i thought Sree was a crap ODI bowler. Lets c if the indian management gives him more overs. From what i gather, his first 2 overs were good and only one over was thrashed. :hmmm:
nsareen Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 cricinfo writes sreesanth might have bowled the fastest in recent times hahaha :) i was reading the commentary on cricinfo and saw the speeds sreesanth was bowling on in the match against bangladesh and it was crazy.... eg:: 4.3 Sreesanth to Imrul Kayes, FOUR, 159.6 kph, Mirpur roars! Sree bangs it short from over the wicket and Kayes seemed to be expecting it. He was back in a flash and swiped it with a mighty swing of the bat through square leg. Very nearly a six. Astounding hit. 9.2 Sreesanth to Tamim Iqbal, 1 run, 155.6 kph, slightly short, there's width on offer, chopped hard but straight to deep point 2.2 Sreesanth to Imrul Kayes, no run, 155.0 kph, good line, not much Kayes can do with this, lands back of a length at decent pace around middle and off, Kayes goes back and punches defensively to mid off
kabira Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Give him a break. He bowled couple of good overs and then lost his plot, could easily have got wicket or two

nsareen Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 munaf patel also.... second fast 10.6 Patel to Tamim Iqbal, FOUR, 158.9 kph, Tamim's best shot of the evening. He's looked anxious and fidgetty through the off side so far, but not this time. He waits for a short of length ball to come along and then punches it on top of the bounce between the men in the covers. Huge effort running back from Kohli, but it is four.
rkt.india Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Give him a break. He bowled couple of good overs and then lost his plot' date= could easily have got wicket or two that is his biggest problems..he loses plot very easily and if he keeps losing plot while playing a match in this world cup our hopes are gone...in 9 out of 10 games he loses the plot whether its test or ODI..
Hell Raiser Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 LOL ...... Speed must be in Meter rather than in KM
akshayxyz Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Seeing such numbers for these two, if I were that speedgun - I would have dismantled myself.

zen Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Bowlers like Sree, who goes all out for wkts, need to be handled better on the field and given confidence by the captain. I thought he bowled some very good balls in his first two overs, which could easily have had BD 2 wkts down or so. Unfortunately for Sree, BD managed to edge some of those balls for 4s. In the 3rd over, Sree came around the wkt to probably better control the swing from outside the off stump of left-handers but ended by bowling wides (if my memory serves me right), which put him off. Then to put doubt in to batsmen's mind (who were expecting full length balls), he tried a few shot ones, which didn't come out well. At this point, if I were the captain, I would told Sree to clam down and asked him to see if he could angle the ball across the left handers and swing the ball in. If Sree were bowling to the right handers, he probably would have been more effectivel. From the angle that he was bowling, the swing was taking the ball on to the pads of the lefties. May be Sree needs to learn how to bowl better to the left-handers.
asterix Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Please bring back Nehra. He is more experienced. Santh can be given few matches against minnow teams. Nehra, Zak and Munna should be okay. Is there a possibilty of playing Ashwin? Ashwin and Bhajji will sort out English batting.
Ram Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 First, we must understand his frame of mind. Rejection, acceptance? What is Javagal talking about? A Relationship? :hysterical: But in all seriousness, Sreesanth’s performance the other day was the most predictable thing in the world. He just doesn’t know how to bowl in an ODI game. There’s no plan, no strategy, no measured approach. His attitude to bowling in ODIs can be pretty much summed up in a line – just run in hard and give it everything, every ball. While this sort of attitude can be your biggest asset in test matches, it can be your worst liability in ODIs. And another potentially explosive trait in Sreesanth’s bowling is that when you attack him early in the over, you’re almost guaranteed to get freebies from then on – bad bowling, wides, no balls. Which is why, his expensive overs are REALLY expensive – 18+ runs. While we can get away with this type of largesses against a side like B’desh when the target is 370, imagine what could have happened if it was the South Africans, chasing 280. A first spell like that under those circumstances is almost sure to destroy all our chances. Having said that, It seems like he swung the prodigiously, in fact the only bowler in the entire game to do so. He has the ability to nip out a quick couple at the top of the order and that could potentially make all the difference in the game. We have to handle him with care. The dude is unbelievably sensitive and fragie. FFS, he cried on camera in front of millions because his team-mate slapped him. Seeing all the media/fans reaction to his performance against B’desh, it could potentially have a damaging effect on his psyche. I hope coach Kirsten is looking after Sreesanth and reassuring him in no uncertain terms.
cowboysfan Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 He should be given one or two more oppurtunities to come good.we have that leeway with the long leaugue phase.
achilles Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Sreesanth is the only bowler on our country at the moment who wants to pick wickets off every ball he bowls. That is his biggest strength. Some call it a weakness. The guy is a joy to watch on song. Lets not write him off. Instead, a kind word will help. FTR, his first 2 overs were good. He lost his plot after that. Even Zak loses the plot sometimes. But then, Sree needs to reach that level.
diegovegaz Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 he was bowling with a lot of passion he missed his mark a few times, but was unlucky throughout his spell could have had 2-3 wickets any other day
ravishingravi Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I hate Sreesant and that is an understatement. But I am with Srinath on some of things.
