Hats off BCCI for standing by Dhoni

On reflection, here is my take. The 2.5 meter rule means it was Bowden's call. That is not the same as saying the original decision stands as some have suggested. Armed with the fact that the ball was hitting middle and leg, Bowden ought to have overturned his decision. Now, as I understand it, Bowden is formally informed of whether it's hitting or not i.e. not whether it's hitting middle etc. However, having witnessed the action on the big screen Bowden can hardly expunge the fact from his brain in arriving at his decision. I guess it depends on why Bowden gave the original decision not out in his head and whether the review provided him with any information to the contrary. Dhoni does have a point. I think.

The problem with the current replay system is this: 1. On field ump doesn't see the replay himself. He is relayed the information. 2. He needs to decide based on the relayed information if the batsman is out or not. You either give direct replay access to on field ump (not possible in cricket I think as hand held devices are too small to provide decent view), or leave the replay/overrule in the hands of the 3rd ump. Going back to the same guy to re-decide for himself based on relayed information isn't good enough. A 3rd ump who has the clear view of replay can use the 2.5 m data better than the on field ump.

Dhoni should also learn from this and not sell his players down the river.. I agree cent per cent with the stick Sreesanth gets and he deserves most of it. But Dhoni shouldnt be making statements against him to the media, puts undue pressure on the player. He can slap him if he wants to in the dressing room, but not in the public

In the Sri Lanka vs Kenya match and in SA vs Netherlands matchs, two decisions of the on field umpires were changed despite the batsman being more than 2.5 mtrs outside the batting crease. Not sure why this has escaped the attention of the media so far.

ahh frak' date=' i was gonna post smth similar. now if only someone can do this for real, especially Indian [/quote'] IF the umpire gives it out first, then the review will tell its > 2.5 m and the original decision will stand, i.e. the batsman will be out. :dontknow:

so batting out of the crease 2.5 meters means the player will never be given lbw? so why don't all players take guard 2.5 meters outside. eliminates one possible way of getting out. i assume lbw's account for 20-30% of all dismissals. quick someone put kirsten on line. i need to talk to him.

Thats not correct. The rule says that the umpire's decision will stand whenever distance>2.5 If the original decision is out, the batsman is out. Anyways, standing too far out will probably increase stumpings, broken jaws etc :hahaha:
