Since they played at Centurian after a 3 year break, it's: Matches played: 34 India: 17 Pakistan: 17 The tour was started with an epic ODI that was the beginning of a great series between the two teams. India put up a huge total and set Pakistan 350 runs for a victory. In reply, Pakistan fell to 34-2 before Inzi made one of the best captain knocks ever. Pakistan were the favorites to win with 34 runs required from 24 balls. Moin Khan and Abdul Razzaq at the crease, with Shoaib Malik to come. Razzaq was bowled and then Mohammad Kaif made one of the best pressure catches of all time that you'll see. In the end, it was up to the current bowler in the news (Ashish Nehra) to bowl the last over with Moin Khan and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan needing 9 runs from 6 balls. They got it down to 6 required from the last ball but Moin Khan couldn't pull of a Miandad. One of the best moments was the Karachi crowd cheering for both teams in a good show of support. This match should be required viewing for every cricket fan.
deadlee Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I watched every one of these matches twice.. and I think I still have the dvd's kicking around somewhere. The series stood out for many reasons, but I definitely remember the stellar response from the crowds who were equally sporting for both teams and applauded the Indian players like their own. It was a display of friendship, and I don't think we've ever had a trip when we were welcomed with such open arms...ever before.. or ever will in the future.

Yup, Kaif was unlucky in the sense that he didn't fit in with the Indian fetish of opting for flashy players. His average of 32 at no. 6 or 7 was pretty good and he was a great asset on the field.

And if people want to talk in terms of average only, players like Bevan & Hussey too have batted at #6 most of their career. @ OP, the series was a lot of fun. The crowds and the hospitality were superb as well.

yoda Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Great great series. 3 tests, all 3 of them produced results. 5 ODIs, most of them were close. And in the end we won both the test and ODI series, first such IIRC in Pakistan for us. JLD 04 was one to cherish.
