Ridiculous schedule

The scheduling last year was similar to this year and we managed it pretty well didnt we? I am sure we will rotate players just like last year. IPL is one of the best things happened to Indian cricket so not sure why some are moaning about it.

I am most concerned about Sehwag and Dhoni. Sehwag has not bowled for ages - He is carrying some serious injury, that he needs to sort out followed by a break of 3-4 months at least. Dhoni - this guy has played most (almost all - I think) matches non-stop.

The BCCI may not be putting a gun to their heads but in a way the franchisee is. It is a commercial proposition, the franchisee is making an investment - and is expecting returns. Normal business. I really think Sehwag is breaking. He started the WC with that grand statement of batting out 50 overs but through the tournament I think his body was not able to keep up. If something happens to him during the IPL and affects his availability for the tours (especially the England tour), I will NOT be happy. :frown:

#1.players can get out of playing IPL, they are free to say that they are injured or unwell. No one will because of the money. #2.players can opt to play certain formats but they won't because of the money. #3.bcci is like a company which is organizing shows, they dont care about careers of players or the longevity of it. They see unlimited demand of cricket and then they see millions of wanna be cricketers in India.

Should also consider...the pressure put by IPL owners and BCCI for particular star players to play in IPL matches... if he doesnt play..things may not be friendly for him...

No they can't. If the top 15 or so Indian players opt out of IPL, IPL is dead.

They may not be able to opt out completely, but can work out a deal where they skip a few games. I haven't seen Dhoni for example sit out even a single CSK game. I don't think he has to play all 14 games.

#3 is the most disturbing aspect of this situation. This is the best time for the players to negotiate and get some sort of control over the scheduling decisions in the long run. If they do it now on this high they'll have everyone backing them from the public to the media and to the govt. if it comes to that. And that's what Dhoni was probably doing by putting that thought out there in a media session. It's now BCCI's turn.

I don't think players will protest much because at the end of the day most of the cricketers will earn huge $$$$ from the IPL so even if they are tired and fatigued, they will play :((

So don't play the IPL. Is BCCI putting a gun on their heads and forcing them to play ?
IPL is still considered as an Indian domestic match. Performance in IPL is used to as a selection criteria. So technically they will insist on players playing. But that is not the reason players play. We all know. :winky: . As i read in BBC article.. they have to stop being obsessed with this 7 match ODi series. That is the first thing that should go away. 3 ODIs tops.

Most of the franchisee have BCCI' date='S friends in it if im not wrong or they have their relatives in it :hmmm:[/quote'] few have. But now that Lalit Modi has gone, BCCI may not have that many connections - Modi had relatives on 3 franchises :phehehe: But there's still N Srinivasn :wall: Waise bhi BCCI does'nt need connection, if they decide something, the owners can't do anything to change it.

I am not in favour of stopping IPL. It gives the BCCI tremendous leverage and power in the cricketing world and players, which works out in our favour at times. But none of these schedules are anything new. they knew about it months ago, then why not keep the IPL 15 days after the world cup and Windies tour 10 days after IPL. Why this stupid scheduling which hardly gives breathing space.
