What you said is Mostly true' date=' But its not true that Ball swings only for first 3-4 overs especially Outside SC. this days its the lack of swing bowlers that is making most of the people consider this thought. Yes he needs to Up his Pace as well. AFAIK he doesnt have much variation too, Like ZAK. he bowls one Cutter rolling his fingers over, that doesnt work much this days. He doesnt have a good slower ball and a Yorker or bouncer too. All together a Very Ordinary bowler. even giving him 5 overs can be Risk much Like shree shant.[/quote'] he is still better than Sreeshanth casuse he has good temperament and knows his limitations and does not experiment much and tries to bowl straight. He can be a very handy seam allrounder for Team India batting at 7 and bowling 5 overs as 5ht sixth bowler along with Yuvraaj and others...he is certainly a better batsman than Yusuf and Jadeja...he has already proved it whenever he has batted up the order and can swing his bat down the order too......

He first needs to get his bowling right, But I dont see that happening. It didnt happen for him in last 5 Years, Not expecting it to happen now.

I have already said it many a times and will say it again. If he has to play for India consistently he needs to concentrate more on his batting, many players have done that...he has better batting talent than bowling in my view...if he thinks he can survive as a specialist bowler than he is wrong...he is not good enough to play as a bowler only...he can bat at 7 and bowl 5-6 overs that will be good for him and Team India too...he is technically better to play fast bowlers also than Yusuf Pathan
I'll have to disagree with you there. In my humble opinion, Irfan MUST focus on bowling because that's what he does best. I don't think at all that he's a better batsman than bowler. Do you remember when the guy first came on the scene and was taking hat-tricks against Pakistan and Australia? He's definitely talented, just needs to work on his bowling and that includes reviewing his action and finding what works best for him. The best thing he can do now is to leave the IPL for a season and play some serious cricket abroad. This is what Zaheer did (although there wasn't a distraction in the form of a lucrative domestic tournament).

this. Irfan still has a lot to offer Indian cricket and he should stick to the basic instead of trying too many things or going to too many "experts" otherwise he will be ruined forever.

you are mistaken..he has never done consistently well against good teams except Pak...look at his record he has mostly done well against minnows and he took Hat-trick only against Pak, not Australia and that Hattrick was taken when he was going down hill, had lost his pace at that time...though bowled well to take that Hattrick but that showed his one trick pony bowling.... He has done better in batting even against good teams..whenever he got chance in comparison to bowling....he does not possess the talent and ability to be a fast bowler... If he does prove me wrong, then i will take my words back.

Irfan needs to keep quiet and put all his energy in being consistent with his stock ball that has a 2/3rd seam position. For all his talk over the past three years he's yet to do that in international cricket. Unless he does that, he's useless.

If Irfan can work his way to be someone half as good as Zak, he would be an invaluable asset to our side. His action definitely regressed over the years. Especially the front arm. Worst thing was not the pace, the accuracy. Accuracy was his forte. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-x_IONTok4o]YouTube - Irfan Pathan Hat-trick v Pakistan Karachi 2006[/ame] If you look at the first dismissal he bowled only at 116 kph. 2nd ball 123 kph.

You forgot that was a very helpful track for bowling and ball was swinging a lot...otheiiwse he wouldn't have taken those wickets with that pace

I agree with VVS. Accuracy and swing are more important than raw pace. It's good to have bowlers who can bowl in the 140's but if a guy like Irfan can get the ball to swing exactly how he wants at 120, then he's going to be more dangerous than a loose cannon at 140.

This was Irfan's last Test match http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/332912.html Both RP and Irfan struggled on a flat pitch. Pitch eased out after morning session. But he made 21 not out and 43 not out. Before that test he played in Australia and won a man of the match in Perth with all round skills. Under swinging conditions he can even run through a side. He brings a lot to the table. I dont worry about his pace that much as he was never an express pace bowler. If he gets his accuracy back then he should do much better.

Praveen kumar is never a 130 k bowler either. He also operates at 125k.
He wont be effective in tests...and he is effective in ODIs only when ball swings a bit and is always useless after 5 overs...he struggles to complete his quota of 10 overs at that time.....Irfan, RP, PK..they all are one trick pony...look at Praveen's record in ODIs in India and compare it to Mitchell Johnson's record in India..you will see the difference... RPs fitness has become so dreadful that he does not even able run in his run up well and some of the guys here are counting on RP Singh to come back
