The only positive post for Tiwary in the thread was guess who - yours! Even if some impatient posters are doing MC/BC in a match thread, there are also some posts taking the other side. This was near unanimous. There is no one who has come out citing or supporting that innings then or now, except you. In the absence of a recording or even the highlights (not that they will do much and will have only hits by Pathan) what evidence can I put forth which you will not discredit? Try going through the ball by ball commentary on cricinfo as well (if that meets your standards) and see for yourself how often he missed out taking a single - you don't score 17 off 30 without missing lots of singles. Anyhow, seeing that you are the only one who is praising that knock and coupling that with your bias for Tiwary I think I've got the answer.
I am staggered – why are you looking at Tiwary’s numbers in isolation, when instead you should be focusing all your attention towards the match situation? You say I was the ONLY one who had anything positive to say about Tiwary’s role in that p’ship. And I happy that is the case because, while the rest of the junta was freaking out over Tiwary’s lack of urgency, I always felt that the pair had things under control. I’ve already pointed out – When he came into bat in the 34th over, the required RR was 7.91. The maximum it ever climbed to was 9, that too for only one over. And at the end, I was vindicated because the pair closed out the game with 15 balls to spare, which is REALLY rare for a team chasing down 315 after being 150/4. And this forms one of the basis of my support for Tiwary – I think he is mature beyond his years. Not many rookies in their debut series would have held their heads together, needing to score at 8 an over in the last 17 overs. And I value mental maturity above anything else, even gifted natural talent, when it comes to rating upcoming cricketers. And just one more thing; your comment about my ‘known biases’ towards Tiwary probably being the reason why I was the only one who posted favorably about him in the match thread.. I find that quite disturbing. The obvious implication is – I will post good things about the players I handpicked, irrespective of whether their role in a crunch situation for India.. Honestly, If I thought Tiwary innings had a negative impact on our chances that day, I would have said so in plain terms in the match thread, unless of course you think I had some weird clairvoyant powers that told that 6 months later, the same match thread would come into question and felt I better say good things about him.

OMG I can't believe you think so highly of Saurabh Tiwary, the other Tiwary (Manoj) is a better batsman along with a heap of others. ST is just a slogger
I object :orderorder:

He was struggling to rotate the strike and putting pressure on YP in the process. He did not bat well in that match. YP has to take 99% credit for us winning that match. I definitely remember that match as i had a lot of money on India to win' date=' Tiwary was struggling. He was called up for national colours far too early and if i remember correctly his attitude is not great. [b']I remember there was an article on cricinfo about him not wanting to warm up properly.
Yep, I remember reading that..think a fielding coach (I think) asking him to practice or as you say warm up and he was reluctant. They were two players indicted in that article Tiwary was one the other was...Pragyan Ojha...Not seen enough of him play to judge whether he is a good fielder with a rocket arm as Morris was saying ..but...from what I remember of that article the attitude of both those guys suck. Tiwary especially, clearly that 15 mins of IPL fame has got to him. Ive only ever seen him bat in the IPL, but he has played well for Jhakrand

Yeah you remember correctly, Soods - Tiwary and Pragyan were singled out for their poor attitude. Here's the article: http://www.thehindu.com/sport/cricket/article465742.ece With just eight months to go for next year’s World Cup, time is ripe for the youngsters to impress the selectors but there still seems an attitude problems with players such as Pragyan Ojha and Saurabh Tiwary. Though the nucleus of Team India for the 2011 World Cup has more or less been determined, the selectors are now faced with the challenge of picking role-specific players for the remainder of the slots. While it presents the youngsters with an opportunity to work harder to stake their claim, the lackadaisical attitude of Ojha and Tiwary during the India-Bangladesh Asia Cup match left much to be desired. Ashok Dinda, R Ashwin, Ojha and Tiwary were given a work schedule during the lunch recess. While Dinda and Ashwin stretched their sinews to complete their assignment of doing six laps of the Rangiri Dambulla International cricket Stadium, Ojha and Tiwary were noticeably reluctant. Team trainer Ramji Srinivasan, entrusted with the onerous task of keeping the players fit as a fiddle, had to virtually push them to complete their drills. An aghast media watched the stubborn twosome being publicly cajoled by Srinivasan. This isn’t the first occasion when Ojha has been hauled up by the team management. He had been ticked off by former India fielding coach Robin Singh during the series against New Zealand in the antipodes. The left-arm spinner has been a reluctant participant in training and fielding drills, merely watching his teammates slog it out under the sun while he remained in the comfort of the sidelines. Given an Indian call-up through the Indian Premier League route than through performance in the domestic circuit, Tiwary was expected to bend his back to gain fitness for stiffer international assignments. On the contrary, the muscular lad from Jharkhand, who was given the privilege to substitute for Ashish Nehra as he was presumed to be the fittest among the reserves, just didn’t seem to appreciate the opportunity.

Mishra over Ohja or even the new Sharma guy? WTF! And a bigger WTF with the Vinay Kumar selection - the guy is the definition of a Trundler. Would have preferred Aaron or even L. Balaji (:winky:) instead of V. Kumar. Badri ofc deserves to be in first string team in all 3 formats. So :two_thumbs_up:

Decent team but disappointed about two selections... 1. Amit Mishra - Rahul Sharma should have been given a chance against WI. Generally I wouldn't go based on IPL performances but Rahul has been in such great form and considering he is very similar to Kumble makes him an ideal candidate especially against WI. He's at the peak of his confidence and what better team to blood a youngster than WI? 2. Wriddhiman Saha - I am sorry but the guy is not an intl class wk batsman. Maybe selectors should have gone with either Rayudu or Uthappa as I can't honestly see a batsman like Saha coming in at 6 for India. This will bring back memories of Mongia coming in at 6 :(( If selectors didn't want to go with Uthappa or Rayudu then Dinesh Karthik was a better choice than Saha. Hopefully Parthiv will play all the games and we won't see Saha strutting out at 6

Wasn't that impressive

More importantly' date=' RP is a good test prospect overseas. [b']If he is bowling well, I'd like to see him in the squad to England.
Indeed a fit and firing RPS would be a great asset, sadly from what Ive read on this board he seems to have fallen by the way side , especially as far as fitness goes and the pace has dropped. I do not think he has not bowled very well in domestic cricket. Not sure if he deserves a call up right now

I just think that he could be given an opportunity to see where things stand. Atleast there is something to take forward. Vinay Kumar is rubbish and his selection won't help us in the long-term.

Fully agree. I hope RP Singh is selected for the Eng tour as he generally does well outside of India - was great in SA in the T20 Cup and was better than all the Eng pacers when we toured Eng the last time round. He provided consistent and able support to Zaheer and on pitches with something for bowlers he is pretty decent. For me he should be in the Test squad for Eng along with Zaheer, Ishant and Munaf. Maybe the 5th spot could be a toss up between Praveen Kumar and Sreesanth.

A bowler with a 5 for in his previous test match and instrumental in winning the one before that is a toss up?

Sree will be our second seamer without any doubt. We should just keep him away from ODIs. He is a good test match bowler.
