Prakat Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 In an emotional interview today, Sachin's first after the long-awaited World Cup Title, the Master revealed that he had in fact, done it for Sunil Gavaskar. Sunny, as he is lovingly known all around the cricketing world, has for years worn his heart on his sleeve as far as Tendulkar is concerned. Since becoming a professional commentator, Sunny rarely paid heed to the duties that come with the first word of that title whenever Sachin was at the crease. His unabashed support and shameless plugging of the Master's numerous records, past, present and future ensured that we were never short of distraction whenever the master's skills were on display. Followers of Sachin's strokeplay quickly learned to employ the calm during a Pepsi ad to mentally replay and enjoy the shots he had played the previous over. But for everyone else, Sunny's recounting of the events that unfolded before their eyes was food for thought. There are the unforgettables about how this century that Tendulkar is about to make (while the sun itself had barely warmed his pads) will be his nth on this ground/against this opposition/in this life. And no match commentary was really complete until Sunny had run out of adjectives to describe the Tendulkar On-drive. And just like how he used to thwart a fast bowler's incoming delivery to his stumps with a flick for a quick single, Sunny can now take any topic that his co-commentator brings up and turn it into a full-fledged investigation of Tendulkar's career. Thankful television audiences will always remember, how Sunny has on occasion, singlehandedly kept Sachin's innings alive well into the opposition's innings. :hatsoff:
