Rainas failed to pass double digits in 6 out of his last 8 innings. And the deliveries he's got out to weren't anything special either. I remember in the first test against south africa we needed a batsman to dig in a little bit and he just gift rapped his wicket in both the innings. And even if you look at some of his earlier innings in sri lanka his shot selection was very questionable. IMO he's not suited to test cricket. But I wouldn't be surprised if he scores a couple hundred in this series and gurante his selection ahead of Pujara rohit and rahane in the England series only to see him look completely hopeless against Tremlett and co. Indian selectors need to start getting serious and start seriously investing for future because the big 3 arn't going to be around forever.

I fear this could happen! Hope he proves me wrong as he has been outstanding in this match so far.

You can't make these sort of sweeping generalizations on the basis of one inning. Kohli may well be the future of Indian batting and just coz he got out cheaply on his debut doesn't change anything.

What was good to see was Raina coming out to bat without those chest guards that he used in SA. That showed he was willing to take a few blows on the body and get on with it. Well done to him. Hope he keeps getting better from here on.

Hmmm, I dont think so at all. If anything, Yuvraj is probably no.4 in the pecking order, after Pujara, Raina and Kohli and only slightly ahead of Badri. Pujara was our first choice middle order batsmen until he got injured. He may not have set the world on fire in South Africa, but hopefully, people should not have forgotten the fact that he played one of the more remarkable innings in test cricket in recent years, against Australia, in his debut series. Once he regains fitness, there's no reason why he should not be immediately slotted into the squad. And remember, until Pujara replaced him, it was Suresh Raina, who was the no.6 batsmen in the team Kohli seems to have gotten the nod over Badri on account of his ODI form and overall game. I fully expect him to make a sizeable contribution this series. If that happens, then Yuvraj Singh is a loooooooooooong way away from regaining his test spot.

^ Nah I think you're wrong. Yuvraj wasn't dropped because he wasn't a quality player but he was dropped because of form, he established himself as one of India's finest batsman long ago. Yuvraj is in great form and rightly deserves to get back his place in test team. Pujara, Kohli are young and they are certainly gonna be regular faces in Indian test 11 once Dravid, Sachin and Laxman make their way.

I remember Cheeka saying Yuvraj will be given another run in the test team and that after his WC performance, not picking him for tests will not be justified. But for his lung infection, he would have been the number 6 on this tour. Given that background and the stakes involved in England series, Yuvi will most likely get the nod for England tests unless Raina/Kohli score heavily here. Yuvi lost his test spot not due to his batting form but primarily because of his fitness (had scored a 50 in his last test in SL and was averaging 42 in the 11 tests he had played since Dada's retirement). Now that he is fully fit, looking leaner and is eager to make a mark in test cricket, keeping him out of that 11 will be tough.
