People forget he had played an important role in our win at Bangalore just 2 tests back on a track which was assisting fast bowlers more than any we have seen in India recently and played two of his best test innings till now, especially 2nd innings in a dicey chase against some goo bowling from Southee, Boult, and Bracewell. Look what these bowlers are doing to Srilankan FTBs. Amazing short memory people have! :hatsoff:

He got his 100 in Adelaide but didnt do much else apart from that, if he was statistically our best batsman (average cant have been more than 35) shows how bad everyone else did. He still deserves chances and has the determination to succeed.
What about 2 good innings at Perth?

He is too good to not come good in test matches. He just needs to play more test. Make sure you guys do not try to turn him into an all rounder and increase his workload. Let him concentrate on his batting.

Yup that should be the benchmark

Yuvraj's problem is more technical. Kohli's problem is more mental. He is still coming to understand various phases of test match innings. There are times you have to on top gear' date= there are times you just bide your time, Key is to identify them. Pujara, Cook illustrated this point brilliantly in the two tests. They both demonstrated how to construct a test match innings without fuss.
No - Kohli will struggle when the ball bounces and moves off the pitch. He does have technical issues.

They are not the benchmark, but they certainly bowled more spiritedly and purposefully than these England fast bowlers.

Who doesn't? The thing is, you need to make most while you're at the crease... It is not as if some batsmen relish green tops..

Universal truth.

He has not yet fine tuned his game to the Test match level. It will take 1-2 years to get the ODI Kohli in Test matches.

It took time in ODIs too to get the consistency. We will have to give these youngsters time to grow and be realistic as they wont become SRT, RD, VVS overnight and no one can.

Lack of FC cricket hurts him. At his age, the likes of RD, VVS, Sachin all used to regularly play FC cricket before test series. Also a promotion up the order to number 4 will do him a lot of good and may help him play his natural game. Anyways 2 more tests to go and he will come good in these two tests. Too good a player to miss out in the entire series.

I mentioned this in another thread, but there seems to be two problems right now: 1. Tendulkar's form means he is coming in immediately after the fall of 2 quick wickets at least. Needs to be batting at number 4. 2. His drives are too firm and too often straight to the fielders. He needs to be more deft with them and work on placing them either side of the fielders to be able to rotate strike more easily. Too often he gets stuck at one end to a bowler for too many balls and then looks for a shackle breaking shot carrying risk.
