I have regained my old bowling rhythm: Irfan Pathan Ahmedabad: India discard all-rounder Irfan Pathan on Sunday said he has rediscovered his old bowling rhythm and wants to retain the form to get back into the national side. The Baroda seamer, who has not played a one-day international match since February 2009, also admitted that he bowled badly for the last three years, but said he has improved now and got the rhythm back. "I have got my rhythm back after half of the IPL (Indian Premier League) season this year," Pathan told reporters on the sidelines of a function organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuses and Illicit Trafficking. "This rhythm is like I had in 2004-05," Pathan, who made his debut against Australia in 2003, said. A left-arm seamer and a handy batsman, Pathan has not featured in any ODI for India since February 2009 due to bad form and fitness related issues. "I have bowled badly for three years, but now I have got my old rhythm back and hope to hold on to it and control it properly," said the pacer, who has 152 one-day international wickets to his name. He said that he was waiting for an opportunity to get back into the team. Yeah right...Irfan needs to realise 2011 is not 2004. we have a lot more options now. And I'm afraid his best isn't quite good enough. We already have a bowler who performs his role- Praveen Kumar.

irfan can bat quite a bit. he is much better than jadeja and yusuf praveen bats like afridi with a brainfart every second

If he can be as effective as he was in 2004 I would love to see him back. You gotta remember that the next world cup is in Australia where fast bowlers will be more effective. India won this world cup on the back of Yuvraj bowling his 10 overs and picking up wkts to boot - he was an ideal all-rounder in the subcontinental conditions. But he will not be anywhere as effective in Aus. We will need a fast bowling all-rounder as Raina or Yusuf's bowling will be buffet for the batsmen on those pitches. Irfan can be used as the 3rd seamer to support our top 2 bowlers at the time (2 of Zaheer, Munaf or Ishant most likely).

Praveen will be more effective than IKP on Aus pitches as proven from the CB series which we won.

I can understand the desperation on Irfan's part, after tasting initial success and then going into oblivion. He should understand that he needs to do more than giving interviews. I mean, let the performance speak for himself. I wish him good luck.

^and who says he is not doing what is needed. Give him a break. He had a serious injury, hasn't played any competitive cricket for a while. He knows he has perform in next domestic season to get even considered.

Having a left arm swing bowler that can bat lower down the order would be great. Unfortunately we've heard this kind of stuff from Pathan every few months without the results to back it up.

Look he was at some function, reporters must have asked him a Q, and he replied. Hardly an INTERVIEW. As for his performances, his FC record over his last couple of seasons- what very little he has played- has been good. Let him have another go this year. Im sure he is under no illusions as to what needs to be done, he is only 26 but the guy has been around the block and then some. All we have to go by now is the IPL , that is hardly a good indicator- and even there there was improvement as time went on
