Rajiv Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 The frist time I entered a large toy store in Dubai, circa 1980 - it was lke my world stopped, shocked with awe coz I just wanted everything. I was at a Toys R us the other day, and boy it felt nostalgic, and I could see myself in all the kids around me. Since I am the only child, I typically got what I wanted and as my mother reminds me I created a ruckus at the airport while coming back that the pilot had to intervene. I wanted a radio controlled car which she didn't buy me, and ultimately my father did in his next trip. My Fondness: ( Thanks to Foreign Trips and Relatives Abroad ) 1) Matchbox Cars: I used to race them and when they became old, I hammered them to give the "accident feeling" 2) Action figure: Almost had the entire set of Star Wars, G.I Joe, Superman and some other dude ( mandrake ), I think 3) Atari and Handheld Video Games like Donkey Kong 4) Lego: LEGO was my weakness, I mean I would stop eating, studying - I just wanted my LEGO and although I got em all, there was one which my father wanted to buy me but the damn thing was hard to find. My older cuz from Khor Fakkan ( U.A.E ) finally found it in a store there It was the sexy LEGO 8860 I was the happiest kid when I got it, I didn't even open it for like a week - I slept with it. Then it took me almost 3 weeks to build it. Cricketics Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I remember asking a lot for a HEMAn Castle. and I got it eventually for my b'day when i was 6-7 yrs old. I had to make the whole thing. The enemies. the place where HEMAN would kill all his enemies. I finished making the whole castle almost, but couldn't finisht he last part. And I was trying to insert one panel into a certian box, and it broke. I remember hiding it behind a almeera so that my mom don't find that I broke that thing. Eventually when we were moving the house, my mom found that it where it was. Also there was few exam papers amongst all the dust.

I remember one summer when I was in Dubai, my cousins had those rifles and we used to shoot cans on the roof. Unfortunately, I couldn't bring that gun in the plane and you couldn't buy them in bombay

flamy Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I was promised a robot toy if I would come first in class in UKG. :D It is still prominently displayed at home. I also asked for those small toy cars that you can drive. There were two types: one battery operated, and one pedal-operated. I didn't get either one. I have made it clear to my dad that I still resent him for not getting me that. He just quips he got me a real car when I grew up. That doesn't count dammit! :hitler:
Rajiv Posted August 4, 2011 Author Posted August 4, 2011 I started off with Atari, then Spectum ZX then in 1988 - was in US, so bought Nintendo as I got hooked on to Mike Tyson Punch Out...brought that to India and due to voltage issue, all games played in Black and White Coincidetally, they released the Indian version "Samurai", and their engineer came over, a nice bengali fella trying to explain the cost to fix it. I spend another 1500 rupees to convert the damn thing Since, I had a good collection of catridges, I exchanged and lost few..inluding a friend of a friend who accused my mario bros catridge killing his nintendo - and this person is the producer of dil chahta hain to zindagi na milegi dobara - I hate him since coz he never returned the game and even years later, couldn't see face to face

One day, both our He-Mans (He-Men?) had a fierce battle against each other. In that process my He-Man lost his leg. :(( I blamed it on my cousin and he too thought it was his fault. But last year when we were talking about the good old times, I finally confessed to him that it was I who broke my He-Man's leg by actually pulling it too hard. :P

And the Chakra.. Hahah good old days. Sometimes My Heman used to fight with the Tatanka and Yokozuna who were coming on tv --WWF days.
